Healing should incorporate all different aspects ❤️‍🩹

The next frontier in medicine isn’t another drug.

It’s a radical shift in how we view the body, the brain, and disease itself.

Depression is often rooted in systemic inflammation, gut dysbiosis, mitochondrial dysfunction, insulin resistance, trauma, or disrupted circadian rhythms. ADHD may be tied to neuroinflammation, poor blood sugar control, or nutritional gaps like low magnesium, zinc, or omega-3s. And heart disease? It’s largely a food-borne illness, driven by a diet of ultra-processed, inflammatory, nutrient-poor calories.

There is no single root cause. But there are root causes.
And they are almost always connected by lifestyle, environment, and systems-level dysfunction.

Medications have their place… But they were never designed to reverse chronic disease. They manage symptoms, often while the underlying dysfunction worsens.

If we want to reverse the chronic disease epidemic, mental and physical, we need to stop asking what drug treats this and start asking why the body lost balance in the first place.

The answer isn’t in the pharmacy… It’s in how we eat, move, sleep, connect, and live.
It’s in our soil, our food system, our communities, our kitchens.

The next revolution in medicine will come not from the lab but from returning to the root.

We are wired for connection from the time we enter the world. We need connection to survive. This need never goes away and I think that it’s even a protective factor as we move through the world. With the trauma and stress in our world, a soft place to land, in our relationships is more important than ever 🩵

All emotions are healthy and serve an important purpose. Anger serves a very protective purpose but it can be so powerful and overwhelming that the purpose can get lost.

Anger often gets a bad rap.
For some, anger is conflated with abuse. For others, with a lack of self-control. Many have been met with punishment, shame, or disconnect when they’ve expressed their feelings of anger, so they’ve learned to hide it or shove it away.

But anger is SO important - it’s your greatest protector.
Your anger is letting you know that something isn’t right; that a deeper need isn’t being met. And if we’re often reactive and quick to anger, it could be that these deeply important needs and parts of ourselves haven’t been met for a very long time.

Anger is also often referred to as a secondary emotion; that underneath the anger is a deeper fear, grief, or unexpressed sadness that hasn’t been allowed to surface. For many men especially, anger has been the only acceptable emotion to show openly, so it makes sense that so many other emotions get channeled through anger.

When I see people who get angry easily, I see their sensitivity.
I see people who care deeply, but haven’t had those tender parts of themselves accepted or appreciated, and who haven’t learned that it’s okay to have big feelings.

For those struggling with being quick to anger or easily overwhelmed by it, what happens if you think of your anger as your protector? What is it trying to keep you safe from?
What don’t you want to give or what might you be afraid to express? What lives beneath the anger?

When we get acquainted with these deeper parts of ourselves and begin to meet them where they are, when we begin to see the patterns of when we feel most angry, and then we can start to meet the deeper needs.
And when we begin to regularly meet those needs, our anger doesn’t have to show up as fiercely or as often.
Be gentle with your own anger.

And if you’re working on being more compassionate & present with your anger, the Let It Go (emotional self management) Workshop begins June 3rd. Come learn practices for improving and developing your emotional resilience and capacity in a supportive, small group setting, and watch the ripple effect begin in your own circles.
This is the only time I'll be teaching this workshop in 2025, and the 4pm time slot is filling up.

Such a good game plan!

Ever feel paralyzed in a stressful moment? That’s the freeze response.

We often hear about fight or flight, but freeze is just as important—and often misunderstood.

When your nervous system senses danger and neither fighting nor fleeing feels possible, it might hit the brakes. You shut down. You go numb. You might feel stuck, disconnected, or like you’re watching life happen from the outside. For me, it looks like a turtle going to hide in their shell.

It’s not weakness. It’s your body protecting you the best way it knows how.

Be gentle with yourself. What looks like “doing nothing” is actually a survival response.

Understanding this is step one toward healing.

Urge surfing is a DBT technique to manage cravings—like waves, urges rise, peak, and pass. Instead of giving in, ride it out with mindfulness and control. Cravings lose power when you don’t react.

Happy Friday!! My brief hiatus from social media ended up being almost 5 years, I thought a good place to start would be a re-introduction. I’ve evolved and been on a path of healing, along with that Graceful Way Counseling and the practice has evolved. I’m hoping to share in this space education about mental health topics and things that may inspire others on a journey of growth and healing. What I won’t be sharing is expert advice or opinions because while I have tons of learned knowledge, I’m still trying my best to be a genuine human in this very messy, complicated world 😊💛
