What we “expect” and how the healing journey truly look are quite different.
1. Be patient and gentle with yourself.
2. Be aware of your thoughts that pull you down and don’t let them control you.
3. Stay active and committed to practices that help you stay grounded and focused (yoga, exercise, acupuncture, breath work, scuba diving, surfing, swimming etc. movement is key)
4. Gratitude affirmations (even if it’s just that you are thankful to have a big toe to keep you stable when walking).

Especially when dealing with pain, grief or fertility challenges we see patients struggling with commitment because somewhere along that healing journey there are highs and lows and plateaus. We are so happy to have so many resources here in the office to help create personalized treatment plans for each patient to reach their goals. ❤️

Postpartum Over 40…..

A topic dear to my heart. A journey I’ve been through, as you can see in the picture of me and my 4th baby, my only girl, 10 years younger than my third son, born peacefully at home at age 43.

Was I scared? Heck ya. My boys were becoming less dependent, my career was blossoming beautifully, my body was in prime shape from doing more yoga and making more time for myself and I KNEW that was all going to change.

What was the early postpartum period like for me? I was over the moon about having a daughter. A joy I never expected until I looked into her eyes. Very tired of course having forgotten the demand of solely breastfeeding, not to mention it takes alot to create, grow and birth a human! and then add the need to be present to my other children.

What would I tell other moms? Try to minimize social media where you find yourself comparing what other women your age are doing. Find support from your family or female tribe to help where they can or just visit.

What is necessary for healing? Support from family and friends, more rest than you think you need (bouncing back may take a little longer after 40 and rest is best), warm nourishing foods and herbs, mother warming treatments, find other moms in your age group with similar interests….several of my over 40 fertility/birth prep patients have become my friends contact us if you want to connect with other moms!

How familiar are you with your menstrual cycle?

As women, our bodies are always changing. We are actually at a different point in our cycle every single day. Where we are in our cycle can affect everything from our mood and energy levels to how we look and feel. We can use cycle tracking not only as a method to conceive or avoid pregnancy but to help determine whether symptoms like pelvic pain, migraines, sleep issues, acne, low s*x drive and much more are hormone related. This allows us to discover any hormone imbalances or conditions and allows you to be more in touch with your body.

Here are three different methods of cycle tracking you can try:
1)Menstrual Cycle Charting
2)Basal Body Temperature Tracking
3)Cervical Mucus Tracking

While it may seem a bit overwhelming to understand, tracking your cycle can be a great step toward gaining a deeper understanding of your own body and its cycles. By beginning to understand what is happening in our bodies each month, we can become more in tune with how we can best nourish and support ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Are you just hanging in there?

Lately, So many people have been saying that they are tired of the ways of the world and that they are just “hanging in there”. That saying has such a sorrowful feeling attached to it.

When injuries occur deep in the muscle, bleeding often occurs causing deep bruises. There will also be edema in the area involving the coagulation of sticky proteins. The combining presence of these elements usually results in stagnation of circulation to the area - resulting in pain, dysfunction, and chronic conditions.

The vacuuming effect of Cupping draws up the old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from the area, bringing them up to the surface and away from the injury so that healthy free circulation can be restored to the affected area, thus creating space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients for faster recovery.

Where there is dead, static blood, lymph, cellular debris, pathogenic factors, and toxins present in the body, Cupping can leave marks which indicate that the stagnation or disease has been moved from the deeper tissue layers to the surface. The darker the color, the more stagnation present. These colors also vary with skin tone. For severe stagnation, darker skin tones present this as more of a dark brown whereas lighter skin tones present this as a dark purple.

Some benefits of cupping are:
