Need to catch up! My fertility education journey started with Toni’s book, “Taking Charge of Your Fertility.” It wasn’t just about getting pregnant or avoiding pregnancy. It explained how my body worked. What was ACTUALLY happening and how to document that on a chart. Over time, I switched to Sensiplan where the rules felt easier to remember and then to Justisse. Charting and fertility is not important only when you want to get pregnant. Our fertility symptoms are reflective of our overall health, and as Lisa says our fifth vital sign.
Episode 621 is live! 🎧
Toni Weschler is back on the podcast — and this conversation did not disappoint.
Toni is the author of Taking Charge of Your Fertility, the book that started it all for so many of us in this field. (Including me — I read it around the year 2000 and it changed the entire trajectory of my career.)
In this episode, we cover a lot of ground:
- How Taking Charge of Your Fertility came to be — including the publisher stories I had never heard before
- What has changed in fertility awareness over the past 30+ years (and what hasn't)
- Why apps that use predictive algorithms are a real problem — and how Toni's new app, Cyclicity, does it differently
- The 30th anniversary edition of the book — what's new, what's been expanded, and why Toni is basically rewriting it
One thing that stood out to me in our conversation: Toni said it perfectly. Charting is the tool — but understanding your cycle is the bigger story. That's something I think about every single day in this work.
If you haven't read Taking Charge of Your Fertility, it belongs on your shelf. And if you've been using it for years, you're going to love hearing Toni share what's behind the scenes.
