Karl L. Simonds, age 75, of Tioga, PA, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025. He was born on September 14, 1949 in Tioga, PA, a son of the late Oscar and Mildred (Cole) Simonds and was the husband of Cheri V. Wheatley. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Marine Corps. Karl was retired from Commonwealth Telephone Company and enjoyed hunting, raising deer and fish, his 1956 Willy’s – Jeep and taking care of his home and yard. He is survived by his wife: Cheri Wheatley of Tioga, PA, brother: Cliff Simonds of Wellsboro, PA, sister: Donna (Eric) Packard of Mansfield, PA. He was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers. A private family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at the Hammond Cemetery, Tioga, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Sanctuary, 725 Gee Rd., Tioga, PA 16946. Robert D. Spong, age 66, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was born on March 10, 1959 in Wellsboro, PA, a son of the late Herman E. and Ellamae (Henry) Spong. Elwyn Luther Taynton, age 84, of Wellsboro, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Elwyn was born on January 5, 1941 in Wellsboro, PA, a son of the late Homer and Evelyn (Luther) Taynton.
After graduating from Wellsboro High School he enlisted in the National Guard and joined the Army. He received the Purple Heart while serving in the Vietnam War and then served as a Company Commander on the DMZ in Korea.
After retiring from the Army, Elwyn returned to Wellsboro and worked for the US Postal Service where he retired as the Nelson Post Master.
Elwyn was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Ciara Hart, and brothers, Richard and William (Marjorie)Taynton.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Rawson); sister Marilyn (Lee) Messner; children Melissa (Kevin) Smith, Regina (Bryan) Smith, Troy Taynton, and Angela (Jesse) Walter; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Wade (Samantha) Brion and their boys, Wade J and Weston; Kyle (Jordyn) Smith and their children, Granger and Porter; Devyn Smith; and Emmett, Lane & Nicky Walter.
Elwyn was an avid boater and enjoyed many years on the Finger Lakes with Nancy and their "Boat Friends." He, also, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drinking coffee. Elwyn always enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports and pursue their hobbies and passions.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Wellsboro VFW Post 4907 in his memory. Gerald F. Ogden, age 83, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was born on August 25, 1941 in Wellsboro, PA, a son of the late Lewis and Mary (Borden) Ogden and was formerly employed by PA DOT. Gerald liked watching western movies, playing music on his harmonica, singing, riding in parades, listening to country music, driving around the area looking at the beautiful scenery, telling jokes and socializing with his friends over a cup of coffee. He loved spending time with his fiancé and her children and grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his fiancé: Barb Short of Wellsboro, PA, sister: Pauline (Perley) Simmons of Emporium, PA and many “step children” and “step grandchildren”. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 1 to 2 pm at the Middlebury Fire Hall. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm. With a dinner and a dish to pass immediately following. She was born on August 24, 1940 in Wellsboro, PA, a daughter of the late Myron and Genoa (Thomas) West and was married to William E. “Bill” Broughton. Dolores was employed for many years at State Farm Insurance and had worked for the Tioga County Treasurers office. She was a member of Christ Church, Wellsboro, PA where she was very active. She loved painting, doing crossword puzzles, and watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Dolores is survived by her husband: Bill Broughton of Wellsboro, PA, son Doug (Wanda) Keck of Wellsboro, PA, daughters: Dawn (John) Caudill of Lynchburg, VA, Deanna Keck of Wellsboro, PA, step daughters: Carrie Broughton of Beaver Meadows, PA, Theresa Broughton of Avoca, NY, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Sandra L. Tillotson, age 80 of Wellsboro passed away at home on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born June 26, 1944 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Aldora (Roupe) Clark. Sandy worked in the restaurant business as a cook for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening and taking care of many stray and domestic cats. Sandy is survived by her children, Tom and Bev Cleveland, Tammie and George Hill and Kevin Cleveland, all of Wellsboro; grandchildren, Justin Cleveland, Heidi Stephen, Katherine Cleveland, Christi Tubbs, Michael Tubbs, Stormy Mckenna, Eddie Mckenna and Kara Whaley; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was born on February 9, 1937 in Roseville, PA, a daughter of the late Lee and Eleanor (Mitchell) McClure and was married for 65 years to Robert Trowbridge. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellsboro and a professor at Mansfield University for 30 years. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Bernard F. West, age 87, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Thursday, May 1, 2025. He was born on May 14, 1937 in Wellsboro, PA, a son of the late Myron and Genoa (Thomas) West and was married to the late Myrna F. (Rowin) West. Bernard served in the US Air Force, was retired from Corning Glass Works, Wellsboro, PA and had also worked as an independent contractor. He and was a member of the Morris Rod and Gun Club, an avid fly tyer and fisherman, enjoyed hunting, gardening and traveling. Bernard is survived by two sons: David (Beverly) West of Wellsboro, PA, Clayton (Sandy) West of Ulysses, PA, daughters: Debbie Burch of OR, Dori (Larry) Becker of Wellsboro, PA, Frances (Larry) Miller of Gettysburg, PA, sister: Delores (Bill) Broughton of Wellsboro, PA, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
