Owner of Moonchild Massage, Shirley Michel has devoted her hands and heart to the art of healing touch for the past two decades—first as a caregiver and, for the past five years, as a licensed massage therapist.
Her journey into massage therapy was deeply shaped by her mother’s accident when Shirley was in the fourth grade. She watched her mom fall from a ladder while picking cherries, breaking her leg in three places. The long recovery brought years of pain, multiple surgeries, and eventually, a leg amputation when Shirley was in her mid-twenties. Later, her mother faced a difficult but courageous battle with cancer, which ultimately took her life at sixty-nine. These experiences inspired Shirley’s lifelong passion for helping others find relief, comfort, and moments of peace in their own lives.
Shirley is trained in a wide range of massage modalities and crafts each session with intention, skill, and a pampered atmosphere. She incorporates tools such as hot and cold stones, Himalayan salt stones, gua sha scraping tools, a massage gun, and soothing essential oils—alongside advanced massage techniques designed to promote deep relaxation and encourage the body’s natural healing response. Her studio features a six-inch heated plush massage table, offering an extra layer of comfort to every visit.
Her specialty lies in deep tissue therapeutic massage with a focus on anatomy and structural alignment. She is also trained in dynamic jaw and neck work and is certified by the State of Washington in intraoral massage—a targeted technique that supports migraine and TMJ relief.
At Moonchild Massage, Shirley creates a grounded, restorative space where every session is thoughtfully tailored to the individual—helping clients reconnect with balance, relief, and well-being.

More from my Mission Trip:

August:
In the Masai Mara Kenya. What a wonderful day getting to explore the game reserve. I’ve always wanted to go on an African safari and after being on such a beautiful but emotionally charged mission to Burundi this is the perfect way to bring the trip to an end. Out looking for Lions and big game bright and early in the morning so it’s off to bed to fall asleep to the sounds of Mother Nature. Two more amazing days planned here then will head home so I can hug Jeremy Michel Natalie Moon and Kat Moon wish I could hug Joshua Moon too but hope we can see him soon. I am blessed and grateful for this amazing experience, more pictures to come

More from my adventures in Africa on a Mission Trip.

August:
Last day of camps….its bittersweet and I feel a sense of sadness knowing we are leaving, it feels like we just started. The young adults were so grateful and I know I will never be the same. This place, these people they get in your heart and just make it expand bigger than you ever thought possible. It’s the little things, the way the kids that aren’t part of the camp that you get to go love on during some of the service times when there isn’t an abundance of them. The absolute fear of missing out face if there isn’t possibly enough suckers or toys to go around and at times the desperate instinct to grab and push others out of the way to make sure they get something. I was grateful for the Burndian staff who helped get the kids in line and try as best they could for them to take turns and be patient. These kids aren’t used to getting free things and when they do they rejoice. It can be as simple as rainbow art, a sucker, a frisbee and the big one was the balls. There is a lack of those things here so the kids often wad several plastic bags together with rope and bind it to make a soccer ball. I will miss this place as I go home but I will never forget this place. I have made new friends and I have been brought to my knees. Tomorrow we head to Bujumbura for the day and we will see 4 more unsponsored widows. Even though I miss my family Gods not done yet, Bujumbura here we come!!

More of my mission adventure.

August:
We got to visit the Batwa tribe today!! They greeted us with such excitement with song and dance and the song was praising God. They are a beautiful people who are looked at as the outcast of Burundi as they are from the aboriginal Pygmy tribe. God is working in this place. I have never had such a welcome in my life, so blessed to be here and serve. There were stories of malnutrition and deaths and the mothers asked for prayers for their children to have food but also for clothes to wear to church. One of the little girls tummy was so distended due to malnutrition my heart just broke. But her mother was sponsored today by someone and they had extra food that was a complete nutrition source so I pray they little one gets better. It is so hard to see what they are going through, most of us will never know what true poverty or hunger is. I’m grateful to be here and if anyone finds it on their heart to want to sponsor a unsponsored widow I can get you the information. The food that was donated today was from the widows of sister connection who at the end of their 2 day camp bring an offering and sister connection takes it to the Batwa Pygmy tribe. Count your blessings every day for the place and families and countries we were lucky enough to be born into. No matter their struggle these beautiful people have joy in their hearts and smiles on their faces.

More from my adventures:
In Aug.

We had a great time at widows camp and teens camp. Got to visit a church today and also went to a nearby hospital. It’s a beautiful country filled with beautiful people. I feel blessed to be here and to serve God. Looking forward to visiting the Batwa tribe tomorrow and then onto the young adult camps 🎉

I would like to share some experiences I have had on my mission trip. Here are some excerpts from my adventures so far.

In Aug.

Arrived in Burundi Africa after a few hiccups and prayers answered for my sister in Christ who got very ill. God is working in this place and I’m so humbled to be here. I was able to meet 4 of the 5 widows we had currently been sponsoring and we gained two new sponsorships when out visiting unsponsored widows. My heart breaks for all of the unsponsored widows still left. One of my new widows we sponsored is named Virginia and she talked about how she has heart problems and can’t work but her daughter goes out to try and make enough money for her heart medication and for food. The medication is $18 a month. She talked about getting food sometimes but it is never a guarantee for even one meal a day. The communities are spread out and there aren’t a lot of jobs so people will go and harvest fruit and try to pedal it at the market which then is used to make a meal for their own family. It is unbelievably eye opening to not only visit a third world country but feel called to be here. God has had it on my heart for such a long time to try and help. I know I can only do so much with what we have but there has to be a way to help more. The Burundian people are thankful people and so grateful. To walk into a village and see all the kids shouting with glee Swahili (white people) with nothing but love from that and they are just so happy to wave and smile at you as if you were some sort of celebrity. How far a smile and wave or hug can go now has a new meaning for me. I have a sign in my office that says You will never regret being kind. And it is so true. I gave testimony to widows about our house fire and how insurance hadn’t helped us and how it had made me feel helpless, sad and angry and made my heart fill with bitterness. And I went on to share that giving that to God has made me feel peace once again and that I had put my trust and faith in the wrong thing but when I placed it back in Jesus things changed for me. They rejoiced at hearing we have a roof over my head and that God is working miracles for my family. Thank you Jeremy Michel for always loving and encouraging me to do what God has called me to do!! I am so humbly aware that this is not a me thing….this is a God thing!! Here are some pictures I’ve taken so far. Today unfortunately I came down with a stomach but so I couldn’t make it to today teens camp but praying my stomach is better so I can go worship with them tomorrow. God Bless everyone.
