SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!! WCA’s Open House on Friday, May 1st from 5 - 8 pm
will feature a POP-UP with 🎂😋🥳

Francis Montes and Jose Sanchez own and
operate Sugar and Slices which is a part of the Downtown Kitchen collective supporting local, food-based start-ups in our community. 🤩

I stopped by their pop-up table while we were doing renovations a few weeks ago and bought a slice of their peanut butter chocolate cheesecake for my love’s birthday. OMG!!! SO DELICIOUS!! I’m so excited that they agreed to be a part of
WCA’s Open House!!

Free samples at their pop-up while supplies last! (And, they often sell-out of their
slices and whole cakes so stop by early on Friday!!)

Cheers!

What is Death Cafe?

At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.

Our objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives’.

A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.

Our Death Cafes are always offered:
- On a not for profit basis
- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
- Alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and cake!

The first Wednesday of every month, a group meets in downtown Wenatchee, where they sit together, drink tea, eat cake and talk openly about dying. This is Death Cafe.

It’s been an intention of mine since I lived in Ohio and attended my first Death Cafe to launch one here in Wenatchee. Along with the synchronicity of fellow kindred spirits, it’s finally happening ☠️🙏🏼🖤

The first Death Cafe Wenatchee will be on Wednesday, November 5th from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at the Vet’s Hall in downtown Wenatchee.

Death Cafe’s are a world-wide movement to create intentional gatherings in which to discuss all things death and dying. It is not a support group nor a therapy group. It is a peer-to-peer gathering to talk about the common experience we will all have at some point - the death of our own self and/or the death of others in our lives.

If you or someone you know might benefit from being in a safe, supportive environment and get something (many things??) off your chest about death and dying or just listen to others, please join us.

All are welcome.

First week back at it!! ✅🙌

Here’s a little tour of the North Central Washington Vet’s Hall where we’re doing community acupuncture on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

People have been asking “Why the Vet’s Hall”? And the short answer is that WCA and the Vet’s Hall both believe in the power of healing from isolation and mental health crises through community connections and human-to-human support.

The longer answer is that WCA has been a service provider for the Staff Sergeant Gordon Parker Fox grant funded program for the past 18 months or so and has close relationships to many in the Veteran community.

The SSGPF program offers community-style acupuncture with nervous system regulation coaching at WCA, equine therapy at and physical training with deep mindset work with Ruben
Payan, Jr. of Powerful Human. It is coordinated and led locally by Tony Sandoval at the Chelan County office of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs.

This collaboration is an innovative and successful, community-based model for trauma recovery and su***de
prevention for Veterans. I hope in the future that these type of community-based non-medicalized models for
mental health care continue to take root for us all.

We need each other.

“Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.” - Peter Levine

I wanted to write a quick update post before I take a break from reporting on “Floodsville 2025”. 🤣😵‍💫🥹 I’m ready to get back into a rhythm!! So this will likely be the last post for a bit.

But first - I have to do a VERY LOUD SHOUTOUT to all my peeps, near and far and if you’re reading this, that includes you. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your support over the last week. It means more to me than I’ll ever be able to describe in words. I hope that my gifts of service at WCA now and in the future will speak for me.

Next, I’m awestruck ‼️‼️‼️to announce that WCA will be open for appointments NEXT WEEK!! Many thanks to the NCW Vet's Hall and Loni McKenzie, LMT for offering to host us. You can book an appointment via the link in the bio or by visiting the website. (Note that during this transition, I will not be taking new patients and will have a reduced volume of appointments).

If you have any questions please reach out or see the FAQs link in the bio or directly on WCAs website.

May we be strong and steady together. 🙏🏼🙌🫶⭐️

I want to share a beautiful story that happened as we were salvaging the space Tuesday.

My friend Jim was going through and salvaging anything in the waiting room of the clinic. The waiting room had big cubbies and we stored all our books for the weekly Recovery Dharma meeting we host at WCA. The waiting room was also gifted 2 huge monestra plants a few months ago which were growing like crazy! Anyhow, Jim looked under one of monestra leaves and one of our Recovery Dharma books (The World Comes to You by Michael Stone) was opened to a chapter that was called “Waves and Water”. 🥹🌊😭

Life is full of ups and downs. You gotta ride the waves…I’m grateful for these serendipitous messages to us all in the midst of so much loss. It gives me a light to keep following.
