Dr. Jeremiah Johnson created WVOFS after assuming the practice of Leonard Pierce in 2014. Jeremiah grew up in the Skagit Valley of western Washington and eventually completed his medical and dental schools and residency training up and down the west coast. He eventually went to Australia for a fellowship in Orthognathic (jaw straightening) Surgery. After 12 years of training, he brought his expert

ise in dental surgery, maxillofacial surgery and out-patient anesthesia to Wenatchee. Now WVOFS is the premiere specialty practice for dental implants and wisdom tooth extraction in Wenatchee. He is also the region's only specialist and in orthognathic jaw surgery. Jeremiah and his wife Molly have 3 lovely boys and enjoy all the outdoor activities offered in this area. Dr. Francis Collins retired from his own practice in 2015 and joined WVOFS as a part time associate. Given the growth of the practice, in 2016 WVOFS moved to the landmark Starkweather building on North Chelan Ave in Wenatchee and added Dr. Tyler McDonald. Dr. McDonald is a Tri-Cities native that did his dental schooling and residency training at the University of Washington. He and his wife enjoy the outdoor lifestyle of Wenathcee with their 2 energetic daughters.

🦷Why do teeth need to be removed?🦷
If dental problems cannot be resolved through restoration or other methods, extraction may be necessary to keep the infection from spreading. The good news is many patients find relief after an extraction due to improvement in tooth sensitivity and resolution of oral pain. A tooth or teeth may need to be removed for several reasons:
-Dental crowding
-Advanced decay or infection
-Advanced periodontal disease
-Facial injuries
-Broken or damaged teeth
-Root canal failure
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are experts at tooth extraction and will determine the best course of action to keep you safe, healthy, and comfortable.

🦷What are the benefits of cleft lip surgery🦷
🟣Functional advantages:
-Improved feeding and swallowing: Cleft lip can hinder a baby's ability to feed effectively. Repairing the cleft allows for more efficient sucking and swallowing, promoting healthy growth and weight gain.
-Enhanced speech development: Cleft lip can affect speech production by impacting the formation of sounds. Early surgery helps improve speech mechanics, giving children a better foundation for communication.
-Reduced risk of ear infections and hearing problems: Cleft lip and palate are associated with an increased risk of ear infections, which can lead to hearing loss. Surgery can help reduce these risks.
-Improved oral hygiene and dental development: Repairing the cleft can help normalize the alignment of teeth and jaw structures, reducing the likelihood of dental problems and promoting better oral health.

🟣Aesthetic advantages:
-Improved facial appearance: Cleft lip repair surgery can significantly enhance the appearance of the lip and nose, restoring symmetry and improving overall facial aesthetics. This can have a positive impact on a child's self-esteem and confidence as they interact socially.
-Correction of nasal deformities: Cleft lip often involves nasal asymmetry. Surgery can address this, improving the shape and symmetry of the nose.
-Reduced scarring: Modern surgical techniques are designed to minimize visible scarring, and the scar on the lip typically fades with time.

🟣Psychological advantages:
-Enhanced self-esteem and confidence: Improved appearance and function can lead to increased self-esteem and confidence in individuals with cleft lip, fostering better social integration and overall well-being.

Cleft lip surgery goes beyond aesthetics, providing numerous functional, aesthetic, and psychological benefits that can profoundly impact a person's quality of life.

💜Treatment of Cleft Lip and Palate💜
It takes a team of medical and dental professionals of different specialties to treat a cleft lip or palate successfully.
Typically, an oral surgeon, speech therapist, ear specialist (an otolaryngologist), and an orthodontist are involved in the treatment of a cleft lip and palate. Depending on the severity of the condition, other specialists may also be involved in the treatment.

Usually, multiple procedures are necessary throughout the child’s development to correct a cleft palate or lip fully.
An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is often involved in most of these procedures, due to their expert understanding in the oral and facial restoration of all ages, including pediatrics.
