Alatheia Riding Center Alatheia empowers individuals through Equine Assisted Services in North Central Washington. Join us in transforming lives with our Norwegian Fjord horses.

We offer therapeutic riding, veteran support, and life/work skills for adults with disabilities. Alatheia Riding Center changes lives with the healing power of horses. Since 2011 we have served children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities and veterans from four North Central Washington Counties. Alatheia exclusively uses beautiful and gentle Norwegian Fjord horses, trained instructors and a dedicated team of volunteers to provide services. We are a member center of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International.

Before a single lesson begins, our Fjords receive gold-standard care. Daily grain, minerals, quality hay and fresh water. Daily turnout and movement, including pasture time as a herd. Hoof care from skilled farriers. Regular vet checks, vaccines, dental, and bodywork. Properly fitted tack and calm, consistent handling. This is what makes safe, effective lessons possible for riders with disabilities and for Veterans and First Responders.

Warriors and Horses is a steady place for Veterans and First Responders to connect, breathe, and rebuild trust. Sessions are confidential and guided by a licensed therapist with an equine specialist and our intuitive therapy horses.
We have watched participants arrive carrying heavy stress and anxiety, and leave standing taller after quiet time at a horse’s shoulder.

We always have so much fun welcoming local grade school students to our arena. Even in rainy weather they get to spend time with our Fjords up close and personal. They had the opportunity to learn how to safely lead walk, discovered a bit about horse anatomy, and explored how limited a horse’s vision really is.

They were also given the chance to look at two Fjords side by side and write down the differences they saw, even though Fjords tend to look very similar. Our local students are so well mannered, excited, and truly engaged. We love these special learning days and the joy our beloved Fjords bring to our community. 🐴👏🏼

Crystal grew up dreaming of helping others heal with horses. Twenty years ago, a jetski accident changed everything, leaving her with physical disabilities and a traumatic brain injury. After fifteen years away from the saddle, Crystal found her way to Alatheia.
With the steady support of our team and her therapy horse, she continues to work on her strength and balance.

Winter is our season to breathe, regroup, and pour love back into the heart of Alatheia. While our riders take a break, our team is hard at work improving our facilities, tending to winter projects, and giving our incredible Fjords a little downtime and enrichment.

And every now and then, we’re gifted with moments like this. Anne Marasa, our Facilities Manager and Riding Instructor, taking a well-earned pause from the cold to spend time in the saddle with Ivar, one of our newer Fjords in training. Watching the two of them together is pure joy. Ivar has quickly become a cherished part of our herd, and the bond he and Anne share is something truly special. 🐴❤️

Meet Martín. His smile says it all!
Therapeutic riding is where Martín works on flexibility, strength, and lowering high muscle tone from cerebral palsy. It is also where joy shows up. Even though Martín is nonverbal, he communicates clearly with his team through gestures and facial expressions and uses specialized cues with his horse. He has built friendships here, especially with his team, and his therapy horse Andor. His mom says Martín reminds people what truly matters and helps them open their hearts. We see that every week in the arena.

Today kicks off the Community Foundation of NCW’s Give NCW campaign, and our hearts are full. Each week we witness the healing power of horses with riders who live with disabilities, Veterans and First Responders working through PTSD, and adults in Ranch Hands finding purpose and community with our herd, volunteers, and staff.

Thank you to our amazing Alatheia volunteers. Our Fjords may be the heart of Alatheia, but you are the heartbeat that keeps everything moving with compassion, strength, safety, and joy. We are grateful for every one of you who joined us for Volunteer Appreciation Night at the new arena.

We had such a great day with our staff, volunteers, and Ranch Hands during rides this week. We are so glad so many of our Ranch Hands were able to join us in the arena. It was a cold one, but everyone showed up dressed and ready while our amazing Fjords proudly wore their winter coats. Thank you to all who helped make this day so special for them. 🐴❤️
