Orange Shirt Day - Sept 30th

Imagine your child went to school today and never came home, ever. Fifty years later you're told their body was found at an unmarked graveyard beside the school.

As Leonard Peltier’s parole hearing approaches on June 10, there is renewed hope and vigorous debate about his potential release.

Since 1977 Leonard Peltier has been a political prisoner of the United States Government. Leonard was wrongfully accused of killing two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, despite the overwhelming evidence demonstrating and proving his innocence.

We ask the Department of Justice to grant clemency and commute the sentence of Mr. Peltier to time served so that he may receive adequate healthcare to meet his increasing critical health needs, and to spend his remaining years as a free man amongst and with his People.

We can not undo the actions of the past, but we can ensure the integrity of a just future by making corrective choices today.

It’s time for Leonard Peltier to come home.

This is Douglass Durham, the disgraced cop who was discharged from the Des Moines police over suspicions he killed his first wife. Following his dismissal, Durham passed himself off as native and rose through the ranks of the American Indian Movement to become the national director of security.

In March 1975, Durham admitted to snitching for the Feds during the Wounded Knee Occupation and Wounded Knee Trials. After his confession, Durham disappeared from the scene with girlfriend Jancita Eagle Deer. A month later, Jancita would be struck dead on the side of a lonely highway in rural Nebraska.

The celebrated poet, musician, and actor, John Trudell, was convinced Durham played a role in Eagle Deer’s death, telling author Peter Mathiessen, “I know he did it. He brought her in and used her to seal a permanent enmity between Janklow and AIM, but she had evidence against him, and he got rid of her.”
