Occupational therapy helps children with their fine motor skills through multi sensory strategies, play, crafts, and the therapist-client connection. 💕

Prevent your child from sitting in a “W” sit position as this can be harmful to their knee and hip joints. Help them to achieve the best sitting posture possible so they can focus, learn and use their hands to then best of their ability. Try alternate positions like an exercise ball, laying on their tummy or tape their work to a vertical surface to strengthen muscles and provide a sensory break from typical chair seating. 🤗

During pillow talk with my son tonight, he told me “When I make a lot of sounds and hum...it helps me do my work [at school]...” and “I move my body or feet like this [he demonstrated how he taps his feet quickly] ...it makes school good.” While I’m blessed to have a son able to communicate his feelings, I know there are many children who cannot do this yet. The OT part of me wanted to share this story and “Why Do Kids Fidget?” link to shed some light on this behavior in our children or students. Have a good night. 💜
