Search, Shortlist, and Reach Out
Once you’ve clarified your needs, aim for a good-enough starting point rather than a perfect match. Search in three places: your insurance directory, reputable professional directories, and community referrals (primary care, schools, EAPs, or training clinics for lower-cost care).
Scan profiles for anxiety specialties (panic, OCD, social anxiety, phobias) and methods like CBT, ACT, or exposure/ERP. Shortlist three to five names. During a brief consult, ask: How do you treat anxiety like mine? What will week-to-week sessions look like? How will we measure progress? What’s availability, fees, and telehealth/in-person options?
After each call, rate fit (1–5) for expertise, plan clarity, rapport, and practicalities; pick two to try. Copy-ready email: “Hello, I’m seeking therapy for anxiety. My goals are __. Do you offer a brief consult? Insurance/budget: __. Availability: __.” Momentum beats perfection—send one message.
