The new Food Pyramid has been released, after years of an outdated one misinforming Americans. 🍎

There are certainly improvements in recommendations, such as cutting down on processed foods, sugars and grains. Also reducing alcohol, even avoiding it altogether is advised. We know alcohol has no health benefits and is linked to a variety of cancers and other health issues. 🍊

Some negatives are that it encourages eating saturated fat for protein sources. We know with years of research and data that diets high in saturated fat are linked to heart disease, diabetes and obesity. A better recommendation would be to increase plant based protein in one’s diet. Like the Mediterranean diet, which has proven itself over the years. 🥗

But remember, this is just one source of information. Being mindful of eating real food, whole foods, getting adequate sleep, managing stress and exercise are key to better health and longevity. ⚕️
