Happy Thursday! Today we were excited to go bowling and had the chance to see so many of our friends.

When we got back to the rec center, we played a fun game in the gym! You had to stand in the middle of the mats to try and throw out all of the balls everyone else was throwing in!

It was a busy, busy day!

Happy Wednesday! Today for our small groups we had a virtual tour of the Smithsonian Museum! We were able to learn about a lot of their cool exhibits. For another group, we made cloud dough - it was pretty messy! A few of us also worked on RAD jobs!

What a good day!

October is AAC Awareness Month!

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, different ways people can share their thoughts, feelings, and ideas beyond spoken words.

At RAD, we believe everyone deserves a way to communicate and be heard. Thanks to the continued support from our community, we were able to purchase a new communication app for our iPad!

This new tool helps all of our participants connect with each other in new ways and express themselves more freely. These are the moments that remind us what inclusion is all about , making sure every participant has a voice!

Today was the very first Adaptive Rec Inclusive Family Hike! The group went on a guided tour at Wehr Nature Center, stopped and learned about the plants they saw and birds that they heard.

Wehr is a great place for accessible nature opportunities!

If you missed today, don’t worry! Keep your eyes open for the Winter/ Spring Activity Guide!

Our WAWM RCS Recreational Adult Day Program -RAD was honored to receive a donation of $1,558.55 from the Chief John C. Butorac Memorial Foundation.

Chief Butorac served the City of West Allis for over 27 years. After his passing, his wife, Laurie, started the Memorial Foundation in his honor. Since it's inception, the foundation has helped support various WAWM RCS Department programs and RAD is thankful to be added to the list of beneficiaries.

These funds will help support RAD in continuing to create meaningful, quality and engaging program opportunities and experiences for our participants.

We are so thankful for the continued support from our community because, without them, we could not do all of the RAD things we do!

Thank you for helping us be "RAD"! πŸ’™

Today was our talent show day!
Ethan brought his map to show us all the cities he could find! Nick showed us his computer skills, Gabe brought in his Special Olympic medals and Michael brought in his basketball to show off his tricks.
The rest of our group sang some of their favorite songs!

It’s a great way to learn more about each other and practie presenting in front of our peers!

Today, our friend Amy from Amy Joy Flower Rescue came back to RAD for another fun and creative flower class!

We learned even more about how to care for flowers and arrange them into beautiful bouquets, and everyone got to make one to take home! We also surprised Amy with a giant card to show her just how much we appreciate her. πŸ’

Community partners like Amy help us learn new things, try new experiences, and continue to grow in ways that make us feel confident and connected. She has helped us grow in so many ways and always makes us β€œhappy”!

Thank you, Amy! You are RAD! πŸ’™

This morning we did a cool activity! We worked in groups and created boats out of tin foil. Then, we put them in water to see if they would float and added weights to them to see how much they could hold!

How neat!

Today at RAD, we celebrated Disability History Month by taking a look back at how disability history has changed and grown through the years! πŸ’™

We watched a video that took us all the way back to the 1800s to learn about key moments in disability history. Then, participants worked together to put together a timeline of important events and had a great discussion about what history means to us and why it’s important to learn from it.

It was such a meaningful reminder that understanding the past helps us keep moving forward, building a community where everyone belongs.
