Wishlist Wednesday 💙
Many of the older adults we work with are finding it harder to afford even the most basic everyday items. Simple things like household and personal care supplies can quickly become out of reach on a limited income.
If you’re able, please consider supporting our community by purchasing an item from our Amazon Wishlist. Every donation helps ensure older adults have access to the basic essentials they need.
You can donate directly through the link below. Thank you for helping us show up for our community in meaningful ways. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/22YIWOY48GVXR?ref_=abls_nvfly_yl

Sleep is crucial for everyone's mental and physical health. Studies show that otherwise healthy people can experience increased anxiety and stress following poor sleep. According to a Columbia University Department of Psychiatry article, people with mental health disorders are even more likely to experience chronic sleep problems which, in turn, exacerbate psychiatric symptoms. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends between 7-9 hours of good quality sleep. Here are six tips from the National Sleep Foundation to get better sleep!
Daytime Tips:
1. Spend time in bright light during the day, natural light, or equivalent brightness.
2. Exercise regularly for sleep. Aim for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
3. Eat your meals at consistent times day after day.
Nighttime Tips:
1. Avoid heavy meals, ni****ne, caffeine, and alcohol before bedtime.
2. Use a consistent routine with a relaxing wind-down to help get the sleep you need each night (7-9 hours for most adults, with same sleep and wake times).
3. Put your devices away an hour before bed and sleep in a quiet, cool, and dark environment.

Show yourself some love this February and sit down with a decadent - and simple - Chocolat Chaud!
1/2 cup whole milk (you can use a milk alternative as well)
1 ounce chopped dark chocolate or dark chocolate morsels (at least 70% cacao)
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Heat milk in a small saucepan over medium low heat (don't let it boil). When the milk is warm, add chocolate and brown sugar (and vanilla if you wish). Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the chocolate is melted. Bring the hot chocolate to a low simmer for 2-3 minutes or until thickened. Stir or whisk constantly. Carefully pour into a small mug. For a February zhuzh, add freeze-dried raspberry or strawberry powder or add whipped cream and raspberries!
