In 1947, the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists (WSA) was chartered by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) as its fourteenth (14th) Component State Society. From an initial handful of members, currently WSA has 540+ Active members, plus a dozen Scientist & 150+ Resident members from the two training centers at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and UW-Madison. Created to provide in-state CME for anesthesiologists, today the WSA also serves patients, the general public and their elected representatives as the resource on standards of ethical anesthesia care.

Dr. Zuegge has served as the UW Health Medical Director of Sustainability since 2015. She started a perioperative green team in 2012 and began measuring solid waste from the OR as well as anesthetic gas waste. Dr. Zuegge tracked the cost savings from encouraging environmentally friendly practices and used those results to propose funding for the new role. Her efforts have resulted in a more than 70% reduction in annual carbon dioxide emissions and several national awards from Practice Greenhealth.

Dr. Amit Singh is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist, currently serving as Associate Vice Chair for Community-Based Ambulatory and Pain Practice and Division Director of Ambulatory Surgery Centers at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His work includes developing the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Comprehensive Hospital Inpatient Pain Service (CHIPS) and founding the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists Pain Medicine Committee, where he served as the inaugural chairperson. Prior to MCW, he has served as the Pain Medicine section chief at the WJB Dorn VAMC and medical director of the Palmetto health Spine Center. He is the current ASA alternate director to the WSA, is a member of the Committee on Communications for the ASA, and a member of the Standard Developments Committee for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

Steven Greenberg has been practicing Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Endeavor Health in Evanston, Illinois, since 2006. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School and continued his medical training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the field of Anesthesiology. There, he served as Chief Resident of Anesthesiology and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Chapter for clinical excellence. After his residency, Dr. Greenberg completed his training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, as a critical care fellow. He currently serves as Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine since 2018. In addition, Dr. Greenberg has been appointed to be the Jeffery S. Vender Endowed Anesthesiology Chair of Research and Education, where he has focused his efforts on reshaping the Anesthesiology Research Program at Endeavor and is enhancing perioperative safety research. In three years, since the rebuild he has built a research team of 10 staff members and 18 attending anesthesiologist faculty members. He also was the longest serving ICU Medical Director of Evanston Hospital for the last decade and a half. Dr. Greenberg created and developed the Endeavor Health Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program and served as ECMO Medical Director for 6 years. The ECMO program outcomes are well above the national and international averages.

Dr. Gwynne Kirchen is an associate professor within the Pain Medicine division of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She obtained her medical degree from The Ohio State University and returned home to Wisconsin for graduate medical education. She completed residency and fellowship training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She currently serves as the Director of the Pain Medicine Fellowship at her institution. She is a regional expert and lecturer on rational opioid prescribing, complex pain management, quality in pain medicine and pain medicine education

Jamey E. Eklund, MD is an associate professor of anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and practices at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Surgicenter of Greater Milwaukee. She is board certified in anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, and obesity medicine. Dr. Eklund’s primary focus is on perioperative risk stratification and optimizing care for children with obesity who undergoing non-bariatric surgery. Originally from Sycamore, IL, she now lives in Deerfield, IL, and enjoys cooking healthy meals, exercising, and spending time outdoors with her family.
