Thank you to WI State Rep. Robyn Vining for visiting Children’s Wisconsin and shadowing me in the OR today. It was an opportunity to highlight the unique value anesthesiologists bring to pediatric care—from managing high-acuity cases to navigating the complex challenges our sickest kids face.

Rep. Vining observed the breadth of our work, the critical decisions made behind the scenes, and the advocacy required to ensure every child receives safe, equitable, and compassionate care.

Grateful for her time, curiosity, and commitment to understanding the realities of pediatric anesthesiology and the children and families we serve.

- Christina Diaz, MD, FASA, FAAP, WSA President

Over the past four years, WSA has worked tirelessly to oppose and improve APRN licensure and independent practice legislation, ensuring that critical patient safety protections were included in the final bill. Through coalition advocacy, the bill now contains key provisions on title protection, stricter pain practice standards, and mandatory clinical experience, reflecting WSA’s commitment to preserving physician-led care and safeguarding patients
