Nancy Bloom, Finance and Operations Director with the Help Corner of Washington County & Clare Thompson, Program Services Director with Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County stopped by the studio this morning to share information about both programs and how you, or someone you know can benefit from their programs.

Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to breaking down barriers to independence for older adults. Through a strong network of volunteers, they provide transportation and supportive services that help seniors remain independent and age safely in place.
They are currently looking for volunteer drivers for longer distances, wheelchair-accessible transportation, and seasonal yard work assistance.

The h.e.l.p. Corner began in 2016 as a collaborative effort between Interfaith Caregivers, The Threshold, and the ADRC to improve access to essential medical equipment.
This volunteer-run program provides short-term loans of medical equipment, helping community members maintain mobility and independence. It also promotes sustainability through the reuse of quality equipment. This program is available to anyone in the listening area including those in need of pediatric equipment. They also accept donations of new or like-new medical equipment that align with their inventory needs.

The first day of spring is here- a season of fresh starts, brighter days, and new energy. As everything begins to bloom, it’s a great time to get back to the activities you love.

The h.e.l.p corner is here for everyone in the community. Whether you need a walker for a steady stroll, a wheelchair to get to appointments, or just a little extra support, we’re here to help: no matter your age or situation.

Spring is all about renewal, and sometimes a little support can make all the difference in enjoying it fully.

If you or someone you know could use our help, reach out. Let’s help everyone step into spring with a little more confidence and support. 💚

From volunteers to equipment to volunteer hours, every action counts. Check out what we accomplished so far this year!

Durable medical equipment includes tools designed to support healing, improve mobility, and help people stay independent during recovery. Doctors often recommend equipment like crutches, walkers, or knee walkers to stabilize injured areas and reduce strain while the body heals.

At the Help Corner, we believe recovery works best when a community comes together to support one another. That’s why we offer several types of mobility equipment to help people safely move through their recovery, including:

• Knee walkers
• Crutches
• Canes
• Walkers
• Wheelchairs

These devices do more than just help you get around. They help stabilize injuries, reduce pain, and protect vulnerable areas from further harm while your body heals. Having the right equipment also makes it easier to maintain mobility, which is an important part of both physical and mental recovery.

Ready for the answer? All of the above. Every piece plays an important role in keeping people safe and independent- whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a temporary condition, or just need extra support at home.

Walker: Provides steady support and helps with balance while walking.
Cane: Adds stability and confidence for getting around safely.
Commode: Reduces risk when using the bathroom, especially at night or when mobility is limited.
Wheelchair: Ensures safe mobility when walking isn’t possible or tiring.

Safety isn’t one-size-fits-all ...it’s about having the right support when and where it’s needed.
