We could take a note out of our own book when it comes to the skills we teach our clients. I am sure you focus heavily on self-regulation/coping skills. We encourage them to practice these skills daily.
But do we practice these skills with the same fervor we preach to our clients?
Donāt worry, we got your back⦠we are here to preach to you. Please, please, please prioritize your self-care.
That could look a lot of different ways, and it will be different for each of us. So feel free to share some examples of how you want to or are already prioritizing your self-care. Letās encourage one another.

I love this definition. It is small but mighty.
It reminds me that self-care requires action from me, and it is not just something I do in crisis. It can be something I do to preserve something that is already in place.
Or it could be something I do when I notice the signs that I am struggling to improve my health.
What stands out to you in this definition?

I came out of grad school with my first therapy job already locked in⦠I was no stranger to work. I started my first business at the age of 14.
It was not the work that got to me; it was I had no idea I needed to work differently at this new job. I thought it would be like all the other jobs I had⦠go to work, come home, and do it all over tomorrow.
Well, I learned the hard way. About 7 years into my trauma treatment journey, I was BURNT OUT.
This month I will be beating the āYou Deserve Self-Careā drum. I hope you wonāt tune me out, but rather tune in and really take a deep dive into making sure you are prioritizing your self-care.

In the trauma treatment field, skills are pushed but confidence is, for the most part, overlooked.
Confidence is not as straightforward as attending a training and getting a certificate of completion.
It takes more. Two things I have found that are vital to increasing your confidence in trauma treatment are:
š¹ COMMUNITY
š¹ SUPPORT
We have both for you in the Trauma Treatment Collective Pro Membership.
Not too long ago I welcomed a new member and this is her testimony after she had been with us for one day.
I believe in the power of this membership and what it offers to professionals like yourself, so that is why I am offering it to you.
Here's what you get as a member:
ā One monthly training with replay available
ā One monthly curated self-care activity with replay available
ā Two monthly group consults to discuss all things trauma related (cases, self of the professional issues, general questions, etc.)
Do you think it is a self-care practice to know how to safely hold space for your clients? If you are like me, these types of things were not even on my radar when I thought of self-care.
I thought of more traditional things such as spa days, a good meal, a day of relaxing, etc. The idea of breaking self-care down and implementing it into my everyday interactions with clients was novel.
Also, to continue thinking outside the box as it relates to self-care, register for a special webinar, āDecolonizing Self-Careā on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7pm ET.
1ļøā£ Community is essential to your growth and feeling of being supported in trauma treatment. Thanks for being a part of the Trauma Treatment Collective Community. We are so thrilled to be on this journey with you. Please donāt hesitate to dig in and really lean on us for support and growth⦠that is the whole reason we are here. Check out our website to explore all the resources available to you (https://traumatreatmentcollective.com/)
2ļøā£ Having a trusted mentor that you can bounce ideas off of and receive quality training from allows you to not only grow your skills but gain confidence in applying your skills. Almost two years ago, I created this membership space that is full of real-time support and mentorship in the area of trauma treatment. I LOVE a good trauma treatment training, or a book on a trauma treatment related topic, or an advice post in a Facebook Group on how to navigate a trauma treatment related issue with a client as much as the next person. But the truth is, those things increase your knowledge but not always your confidence or feeling of being supported in the process of navigating through with your actual client.
Thatās why almost two years ago, I created this membership space that is full of real-time support and mentorship in the area of trauma treatment.
I got EMDR trained, CPT trained, Prolonged Exposure Trained, and became a certified Play Therapist.
At one point in my training journey, I looked up and I was loaded down with knowledge but skimping on confidence and the ability to apply all the knowledge I had.
No matter how much interest and training I had in trauma treatment, it was not translating to confidence in my ability to apply my knowledge to the work I was doing day to day.
The past two years have been a time to grow skills. Many of us have taken the time to invest in trainings but now are noticing a lack of confidence in the skills you have developed over time.

Yup, you heard me right. There is research out there that says 85% of mental health workers struggle with vicarious trauma.
There is no shame if you are⦠we know all too well how real vicarious trauma can be. You are in safe company.
Rather than shame you, we want to support you. Please consider this as an invite to our special webinar on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7pm ET where we will talk about āDecolonizing Your Self-Careā.
I hope I am not alone, but if I am, you can only imagine at the beginning of my career how lost and overwhelmed I was. Can anyone relate? Let me know in the commentsā¦
Luckily I wasn't scared away but rather fascinated by trauma. How about you? How did you move through the beginning phases of your career in trauma treatment?

I would love for you to share if any of these are things you are doing already or plan to do. Just drop your answer in the comments.
Also if you are wanting to deepen your self-care, then join us on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7pm ET for a webinar entitled āDecolonizing Your Self-Careā.

It is easy for us to get locked in on our clientās safety, especially if they are struggling with any self-harm behaviors. But I encourage you to consider your own sense of safety so you can co-regulate with your client.
If you are not settled in your own sense of safety, it will be hard to help your client find their sense of safety.
