In a recent article, the The New York Times asked Calibrate Clinical Advisor Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford to weigh in on the fact that while over 40% of Americans have obesity, just 1% of doctors in the United States are trained in obesity medicine. We couldn't agree with her more that it’s time to treat people living with obesity with the same level of dignity as those facing other diseases. A lack of education on obesity as a chronic illness fuels a societal stigma that presents itself in the doctor's office and through the medications insurers will cover for the treatment of obesity.
