Old Colony Hospice Family Testimonial

We’re honored to share this heartfelt message from a family who entrusted us with their loved one’s care.

“Each member of the hospice team was wonderful. My husband was too near death to notice but I noticed and realized that with the help of the team, I would get through my husband's ‘transition’.”

Kick Off the New Year With Success - Book Your CEUs Early!

Available Presentations:

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HOSPICE BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK
We address the who, what, when, where, why and how of Hospice Care. (a.k.a. Hospice 101)

PALLIATIVE CARE vs. HOSPICE CARE **
There is much confusion around what constitutes palliative care and how it differs from hospice care. We explain appropriateness for a person facing a progressive, life-limiting, chronic illness to determine what supportive and comforting services can be the most beneficial.

CARING FOR THE CAREGIVER: COMPASSION FATIGUE
Caring for the sick or elderly can consume a lot of energy and empathy. Learn what causes compassion fatigue, and how to diagnose and treat the symptoms within yourself and others.

ALTERNATIVE & COMPLIMENTARY THERAPIES IN HOSPICE
Add an extra dimension of care to Hospice's commitment to nurturing the body, mind, and spirit. Therapies we discuss are music and pet therapies, Reiki, gentle touch therapies, and aromatherapy.

RECOGNIZING HOSPICE TRIGGERS **
Assessing for hospice can be difficult and time consuming. There is no crystal ball. This offering explores the eligibility requirements set by Medicare and how hospices determine eligibility.

PAIN & SYMPTOMS AT END OF LIFE
The dying process can be painful and accompanied by unpleasant symptoms. In this program we discuss assessment and treatment of pain while dispelling misconceptions. We also review signs and symptoms of impending death, summarize care and comfort techniques, and present ways to help families cope after the loss of a loved one.

ADVANCE DIRECTIVES / MOLST REVIEW
Working through Advance Directives and MOLST forms can be daunting. Here we get everyone on the same page regarding why these forms are important and how to get them completed.

ETHICAL DILEMMAS AT END OF LIFE
When two core values conflict, what's the right thing to do? Ethical dilemmas occur often at end of life. This workshop formatted presentation explores these difficult situations with a focus on patients at end of life.

INTRO TO DEMENTIA, HOSPICE CARE & HABILITATION THERAPY **
The most frequent diagnosis we see in hospice is dementia, here we review what happens at the end stages of disease, how hospice fits and how to use non-pharmacological interventions in care.

TREATING DELIRIUM
Delirium or terminal agitation can be one of the more difficult symptoms to manage at end of life. This program explores the different interventions for treating delirium.

DEMENTIA LIVE® - SIMULATION AND IMMERSION EXPERIENCE
We are able to collaborate with other agencies to provide an interactive presentation that provides understanding of how the individual with dementia feels. Dementia Live® uses specialized gear within a safe, experiential setting that allows participants to gain greater awareness of the struggles with dementia, share personal reactions and integrate improvements in care with Empowerment Tools.

Your Hospice Care Partner

Hospice care is one of the most personal experiences of an individual’s life. Focused on meeting the physical, spiritual, and psychosocial needs of patients with advanced disease, hospice care often involves family and friends who are committed to ensuring that their loved one can live where they are most comfortable and enjoy the highest quality of life possible for their entire life.

For over 38 years, Old Colony Hospice’s team of registered nurses, social workers, counselors, hospice aides, nutritional consultants and volunteers has been providing caring, compassionate hospice care to patients and their loved ones in partnership with the patient’s primary care physician.

A free-standing, non-profit, Medicare certified, accredited health care organization, we are proud to serve 45 cities and towns in Southeastern Massachusetts - see our service area. In order to serve our patients and families in whatever setting they consider home. We also are able to offer physical, occupational and speech therapy through relationships with other care providers.
