There’s a misconception that once someone is diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s, it’s “too late” and that there are no treatment options and nothing can be done to help them.🧠

At Iowa Neurology and Sleep, memory disorders are one of the most common conditions we treat. We offer new medications, evidence‑based treatment options, and personalized lifestyle recommendations that can make a meaningful difference. We also provide resources to help you support your loved one at home so they can continue to thrive while living with Alzheimer’s or other memory conditions.

Did you know deep sleep plays a key role in saving your memories?

🧠Every day, your brain takes in an enormous amount of information: conversations, tasks, emotions, and experiences. In today’s always-connected world, that information is constantly competing with notifications, scrolling, and screen time.

🧠During deep sleep, the brain replays and stores memories so they can move from short-term holding into long-term memory. When deep sleep is disrupted, those memories remain fragile, making it harder to remember details, learn new information, or stay focused the next day.

Even a few nights of poor sleep can affect both short and long-term memory. Importantly, memory concerns don’t always point to a serious neurological condition.

If you think you're getting enough sleep, but don't feel rested, you could be dealing with a sleep condition like sleep apnea. Sleep quality, not just sleep quantity, is often the missing piece.

Our sleep clinic offers comprehensive, personalized care to help identify and treat sleep conditions. Diagnostic services include in-lab sleep studies, daytime testing such as the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), and at-home sleep testing using advanced technology like WatchPAT. Treatment options may include CPAP or BiPAP therapy, dental appliances, or surgical options, including Inspire® therapy for appropriate candidates.

We’re committed to helping you save your memories and achieve more restful, healthier sleep. Learn more about our treatment options and schedule a consultation: 👉 https://iowaneurologyandsleep.com/services/

We recently presented to providers at Great River Health to share information about our new memory care program. 🧠

When patients visit their primary care provider, they must have the tools and information needed to connect them with the right referrals whether that’s to specialists, services, or programs that can truly make a difference.

Our new memory care program is one of those resources. It has the potential to be life‑changing for individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Treatment works by targeting beta‑amyloid, an abnormal protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Infusions reduce and remove beta‑amyloid buildup in the brain, helping slow disease progression and support thinking and memory.

Early detection is critical. This therapy is only effective during the earliest stages of the disease, which is why recognizing subtle memory changes in yourself or a loved one and seeking evaluation as soon as possible is so important.

We’re proud to offer this advanced therapy at our West Burlington clinic.

If you’re noticing memory concerns such as frequently misplacing items, difficulty remembering names, or trouble completing routine tasks, we encourage you to schedule an evaluation.

Not all memory changes are caused by Alzheimer’s or dementia, some may be related to treatable conditions like vitamin deficiencies. A conversation with your primary care provider and, if needed, a specialist can provide clarity and peace of mind.

📞 Call (319) 754-4400 to see if this treatment may be right for you or your loved one.
