Another beautiful weekend of training and hanging out with the community. A few of our newer EMTs got their first hands on experience with vehicle extrication during our rescue drill. Later in the afternoon, we were invited to bring our decorated ambulance and lots of candy over to the annual West Caldwell Trunk or Treat.

Congratulations to our past active member, Laurie Harper, on her retirement after 50 years in EMS! Laurie began her EMS career at WEFAS where she volunteered alongside her husband, Grant Harper. Laurie went on to become a Paramedic for Atlantic Health where we continued to run EMS calls with her for many many years. Laurie, we wish you nothing but health and happiness during your next chapter!

Fall is always a busy time of year for us 🎃 🚑 🍂
Over the last few weeks, we have
provided EMS coverage at our local football games, street fair, touch-a-trucks, movie nights, Halloween parades, The Jimmy Ciampi 5K, Shoprite's parking lot party, and the NJ EMS Council Convention. All of these standby events are in addition to our regular 911 calls for service.
If you see us out at any of these events, please come say hello and ask about what it takes to become a volunteer!

Friday, September 12th, was First Responder Night at the Caldwell vs. West Essex football game. Thank you to Dan Romano of Caldwell Athletics and the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education for organizing this game into a highly successful fundraiser. WEFAS was presented with a check for $5155, with which we will be able to keep our ambulances stocked, maintained, and ready to respond to emergencies. We wish the Chiefs and the Knights both a safe and successful season!

Over the last 4 years, The Rotary Club of the Caldwells has funded the purchase of 4 new sets of custom turnout gear for our rescue truck crew members, 4 new traction splints, 4 CPR compression machines, our First Response vehicle, and more. As a 100% volunteer agency that does not bill for services to our patients, we are 100% reliant on donations like these to keep our organization running. To the members of the Rotary and all those who support their efforts, we can't thank you enough for your generosity! Pictured are WEFAS Chief Jeff Sutherlin with Rotary member Scott Stellfox (modeling our new gear for everyone to see) at the Rotary's meeting this past Wednesday.

A big thank you to all who came out to donate at our July blood drive! There were 18 donations! Summer is typically a time when blood bank inventories decline and donations are critical to save lives!

At a recent fundraiser hosted by the WEFAS Auxiliary, people from our community came together for a “Sip & Paint” event, where we decorated planters and had an afternoon of laughter and creativity! 🪴 🌺 🎨

Did you know that the WEFAS Auxiliary raises much needed funds for our all-volunteer first aid squad? We are ALWAYS looking for community volunteers who want to help us advance our cause and have fresh ideas and a desire to make a difference.
