Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2024!

It costs $5,700 for a child to receive 19 days of life changing intensive therapy services at Camp Helping Hands. Throughout the month of November, and ending on GivingTuesday, our goal is to raise enough money to send 4 children to 19 days (1 whole month of camp) for FREE!

Help us reach our goal of $22,800 so that 4 children can achieve theirs!

We love a functional, occupation based activity here at Intensive Therapeutics! 🎃 Carving and painting pumpkins for Halloween not only hits so many goals, but is just pure fun. Kids should get to be kids. It’s their meaningful occupation, what they’re meant to do. 👏🏻So let’s always create therapeutics activities that will achieve this and more ⭐️Happy Halloween to all! 👻

Presenting our poster at American Academy for Cerebral Palsy & Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) in Quebec City. What a wonderful organization that supports, advocates and understands what the CP community needs and what they/we are looking for. This was our first year in attendance and we met so many great people all with the same vision. I finally feel that Intensive Therapeutics, Inc. has a home for support and understanding of our Camp Helping Hands programs.

Our poster presentation was our first attempt at presenting our data about what Camp Helping Hands is and how a small-group, intensive therapy collaborative program (OT and speech) can contribute to changing the lives of children, teens and young adults with CP through active participation. There is much more to do! Stay tuned!!

🎃 Pumpkin fun at Say & Play! The kiddos of our weekly OT & speech group loved our pumpkin wash! 🧼 This activity is not only fun, but a powerful tool for development!

Here’s how:

✨ Builds Language Skills
As children engage in washing pumpkins and splashing around, they naturally talk about what they’re doing—describing sensations & , actions. This helps expand their vocabulary and strengthens communication skills.

✨ Boosts Fine Motor Skills
Scooping, pouring, and splashing with different types and sizes of tools help strengthen little hands, building the muscle control needed for tasks like dressing, eating, and school skills.

✨ Building Social Skills
Working with friends fosters cooperation, turn-taking, and problem-solving! Opportunities for social interactions arise as kids share tools and engage in the same sensory activity.

✨ Promotes Sensory Integration
Water play helps children process sensory input through touch, temperature, and movement, improving their ability to respond to sensory information in their environment.

Another great group of building skills & language through play! 🧠💬

Let’s talk about a multi-sensory approach 📝👧🏻

Watch as one of our friends follows the windy path to find a letter for a silly mad libs!

Incorporating movement into handwriting is a great way of working on: building hand strength, improving visual motor skills, following multistep directions, and sensory regulation!

🌟 Is your little one getting ready to write? 🖍️✨ Understanding pre-handwriting readiness is key! 📝💡

👶 Before picking up a pencil, kids need strong hands and coordinated movements. 💪🤲 Strengthen those muscles through fun activities like playdough squeezing, tearing paper, and using tweezers!

🎨 Pre-writing strokes are the basic lines and shapes children typically learn to draw before they can form letters and numbers. These strokes build the fine motor control and coordination needed for handwriting. From vertical lines to circles and crosses, each milestone builds confidence for the next! 🔄👏

👂 What is auditory discrimination? 👂
It’s all about our hearing and our ability to distinguish the differences between sounds!

Discrimination is a key skill for understanding different meanings of words!

In therapy, we use minimal pairs (words that differ by one sound: cat, bat) to help individuals hear and differentiate between sounds BEFORE we work on saying them!

And being dressed up as buzz light year makes it all the more fun 🦸
