Willow Branch Sangha

Willow Branch Sangha Willow Branch Sangha is a community of mindfulness practitioners in the Zen tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. All are welcome to our weekly meditations.

Willow Branch Sangha (WBS) is a group of friends with the common interest in the practice of mindfulness in daily living. We come from diverse spiritual backgrounds. Our practice is inspired by the teachings on engaged Buddhism by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and other teachers. A sangha is a community of practitioners. Mindfulness is the capacity of being deeply aware of what is going on at the present moment. Willow Branch Sangha meets every Sunday from 6-8:30 pm at:
Church of the Loving Shepherd
1066 South New Street, West Chester, PA
For details about our program and a calendar, please visit our website: www.willowbranch.org

Our practice consists of a formal program, including chanting of Thay's new translation of the Heart Sutra, a reading, sitting meditation, walking meditation and dharma sharing. The Five Mindfulness Trainings are recited on the first Sunday of each month, and on the third Sunday, sitting meditation is more brief as the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings are recited. If the weather is fine, we practice outside, otherwise we are fortunate to have a large mediation area indoors. All are welcome.

Dear Community,
Our sitting for this evening, 3/15, has been cancelled.
In the coming weeks, WBS will move to an offering of virtual sitting sessions, so that we can still gather together as a sangha as we navigate the situation around COVID-19 together. In this way we can continue to support one another's practice as well as our health and the collective health of our society. Please stay tuned to this page for details about virtual sittings. Wishing all beings peacefulness and ease.

Compassion and love for the suffering of others. Please join us this evening at 6pm for a sit and a reading of the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings.

"Why do you have to love your enemy? How can you love your enemy? In the Buddhist teaching, this is very clear. Buddhism teaches that understanding is the ground of love. When you are mindful, you realize that the other person suffers. You see her suffering and suddenly you don't want her to suffer any more. You know that there are things you can refrain from doing to make her stop suffering, and there are things you can do to bring her relief.
When you begin to see the suffering in the other person, compassion is born, and you no longer consider that person as your enemy. You can love your enemy. The moment you realize that your so-called enemy suffers and you want him to stop suffering, he ceases to be your enemy."
