Not being able to discuss issues at a physical was one of the many reasons I left corporate, insurance-based medicine. It just feels wrong, both to the patients AND the doctors. I’m free of it now, but I know it’s still irritating people!

Part of me really thought they wouldn’t actually let the subsidies expire. Ha! Silly me! Would I prefer that the insurance didn’t charge so much for premiums, so that the subsidies weren’t needed? Yes. Yes, I would. But here we are and a lot of people aren’t going to be able to afford their insurance. Please feel free to comment or DM me with your premium rate increases.

Around 22 million Americans are about to lose the subsidies that have made their health insurance affordable. It’s estimated around a third of those people may end up going without insurance altogether. This is a recipe for disaster. Call your senators and representatives and let them know you’re worried. Even if you’re someone who can afford insurance, what are you going to do when your local hospital starts to go belly up because they’re now inundated with patients who can’t pay their bills? What a mess. We spend the most on health care in the world and yet we are facing a potential healthcare disaster. Follow the money. Guess who is doing fine? The insurance companies. (And members of Congress, but that’s a rant for another day.)

So our healthcare system is broken. We all know that, but I’m concerned that we are about to see it get much worse. I could be wrong, but if millions of people are about to lose their health insurance, the hospitals are going to take a big hit. There’s a definite possibility that we are going to see so many of them close, especially in rural areas. It literally gives me agita. 😣

Direct Primary Care is not a good fit for everyone, but a lot of people really love it! It’s a different approach to providing primary care. Appointments are longer and there’s improved accessibility. See if there’s one in your area!

This decision didn’t come from new science. It came after almost the entire expert panel was replaced with people who have made careers out of sowing doubt.
 This is healthcare policy being shaped by profitable ideologies, not evidence.

What’s at stake?
More babies unprotected. More chronic liver disease in the future. A public-health success story thrown in reverse - for no scientific reason.

As a family physician, I want parents to have real choices - informed, evidence-based choices, not choices made more confusing by politics and greed.

And once again, for the people in the back, I make no money off vaccines. Sigh.

It sounds crazy, but Direct Primary Care is more accessible than most people think. It’s concierge level care for normal people. If you’re interested, do an internet search for Direct Primary Cares near you!

Flu shots reduce the severity of the infection, which can be life saving, especially in high risk groups, like the elderly, chronically ill, pregnant, and very young. Everyone 6 months and older is eligible, with few exceptions. Please speak with your doctor to find out if it’s right for you.
