The Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester The Hickman is a senior living community located in the heart of West Chester, PA.

The Hickman was founded in 1891 by two Quaker women who recognized the need for care and support of older adults in their community. They sought to build a safe and affordable home for such individuals to help them lead dignified, fulfilling lives.

What a beautiful afternoon in the garden at Darlington! 🌸🌿☀️

Coordinated by Stacey Farrell, Community Life Manager – Darlington Neighborhood, the event brought residents together for a joyful day of planting, laughter, music, and sunshine alongside family members and loved ones.

A special thank you to Bill’s O's daughters, Maureen and Bea, for generously donating flowers and plants for the garden — including several wonderful perennials. We are so grateful they could spend the afternoon helping residents plant them by hand. Everyone had such a good time. Stacey reported there was not a clean hand in sight by the end of the day!

There’s something powerful about preparing a meal — the familiar smells, the memories it brings back, and the sense of purpose it creates.

In our Darlington memory care neighborhood, residents recently participated in a special culinary program developed by an Occupational Therapy doctoral student Katie Friedman. Through baking, decorating, storytelling, and shared experiences, residents engaged in meaningful activities that encouraged independence, confidence, and connection.

As part of her capstone project, Katie Friedman created a culinary cookbook to help The Hickman staff and families continue cooking activities with residents for years to come.

At The Hickman, residents are greeted by familiar faces each day. Our care team takes the time to listen to their stories, learn their routines, and help them continue to enjoy the things that bring them joy. Residents enjoy chef-prepared meals, daily programs, and opportunities to build meaningful friendships within a warm and welcoming community.

We are currently offering limited one-bedroom availability with a waived community fee and room rate locked through 2027 for new residents.
