The Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester The Hickman is a senior living community located in the heart of West Chester, PA.

The Hickman was founded in 1891 by two Quaker women who recognized the need for care and support of older adults in their community. They sought to build a safe and affordable home for such individuals to help them lead dignified, fulfilling lives.

Due to forecasted rain during the event, we’ve decided to cancel today’s Neighborhood Summer Concert with the Diamond State Concert Band.

While we’re disappointed, the safety and comfort of our residents, guests, and neighbors are our top priority.

Bring a chair or blanket, enjoy live music and light refreshments, and gather with neighbors for a festive summer afternoon.

Professional Development in Action!

On July 17, the Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association (PALA) held its Regional Forum at The Hickman in West Chester. Leaders and professionals from across the southeast region came together for a day of immersive learning and networking.

The event featured:
🌟 Dementia Live® – an eye-opening simulation that deepened empathy and understanding for those living with dementia.
🌟 Dementia Training for AL/PC Caregivers – A presentation on how to effectively train staff to enhance the quality of care for residents living with dementia, and how to communicate those techniques in ways that resonate with caregivers.
🌟 BHSL Regional Licensing Updates – helpful insights, trends, and best practices from PA’s licensing staff.

A special thank you to PALA Executive Director Susan Saxinger and Event Coordinator Janet Neidig for bringing this important forum to our campus. The Hickman's Toni Kelly, Executive Director, and Maggie Abbonizio, Director of Resident Services, participated alongside industry peers.

Are you navigating the challenges of caring for someone with Alzheimer's or dementia? You don't have to do it alone. Join our next Caregiver Support Group meeting, and you will find a community ready to welcome you with open arms.
