The Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester The Hickman is a senior living community located in the heart of West Chester, PA.

The Hickman was founded in 1891 by two Quaker women who recognized the need for care and support of older adults in their community. They sought to build a safe and affordable home for such individuals to help them lead dignified, fulfilling lives.

Today, our team gathered for a Staff Appreciation Lunch in celebration of Black History Month, hosted by The Hickman’s DE & I Committee.

A heartfelt thank you to Aundra and our talented Dining Team for preparing a delicious menu that brought us together in gratitude and community as we enjoyed fried and baked chicken, mac and cheese, sautéed cabbage, and cornbread muffins.

Throughout the month, Community Life presented Black History Month trivia and tributes honoring influential leaders and changemakers whose legacies continue to shape our world.

In honor of Black History Month, Chandra has been quizzing our staff on local Black history heroes. We thought we’d share the question here with you, too.

Born in West Chester in 1927, she went on to break barriers in nursing, military leadership, and education. Her impact reached across the world and helped shape the future of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.

Yesterday, several of our residents enjoyed front-row seats to the West Chester Friends School student performance of the musical Stone Soup. Under the direction of Teacher Samantha and Teacher Amy, the students delivered another creative and “souper” performance.

We love moments like these that naturally bring generations together and strengthen our community connections. We are so grateful that the students visit our residents frequently at The Hickman.
