Standing on the Santa Monica Pier, looking out over the Pacific, Marissa turned to her father and said, “Isn’t this beautiful, Dad? Life is wonderful.” She was fighting to believe it—fighting to hold on. But after seven years battling an eating disorder, the system failed her one final time.
Marissa was intelligent, full of wit, and deeply loved. She wanted to help others get the care she struggled to access. “Reach them when they are young,” she said. “Educate them. Don’t let this disease take over.”
