Main Line Dermatology is excited to introduce a new treatment option for patients with precancerous lesions caused by sun damage that can develop into skin cancer if left untreated.

Photodynamic Therapy (AKA Blue Light Therapy) is a non-invasive treatment that not only targets damaged cells, but also helps improve overall skin tone and texture by treating years of sun damage.

Today is Melanoma Monday, a reminder to know the warning signs of melanoma and schedule regular skin checks.

Can you identify which spot shows features that may be concerning?

Spot B has warning signs that should be evaluated by a dermatologist.

When checking your skin, remember the ABCDEs of melanoma:
A = Asymmetry: one half does not match the other
B = Border: edges are irregular or poorly defined
C = Color: color is uneven or varies within the spot
D = Diameter: larger than 6 mm, about the size of a pencil eraser
E = Evolving: changing in size, shape, color, or symptoms

Not every suspicious spot is melanoma, and melanoma can look different from person to person. A dermatologist can evaluate changing or concerning spots and determine whether further testing is needed.
