🌟 Scrubbing into Success: Nurse Resident Spotlight🌟

Say hello to Christy Montgomery, a shining member of 4th Medical South and proud South University graduate. Christy describes herself with three emojis: 😘😂😁. If you’ve ever met her, you know that energy shows up in everything she does.

Christy has been part of the Lexington Health family for six years, and she says her unit is special because “they aren’t just my coworkers, they are my family.” They encouraged and supported her throughout nursing school, and she says that support “meant the world to me.” Today, she brings that same compassion and encouragement to her patients and teammates every single shift.

Outside the hospital, Christy loves gardening, working on puzzles, and baking. She shared that “I love to bake!” which makes perfect sense since anything sweet is her comfort food. When she’s getting ready for a shift, she gets pumped up listening to “Good Day” by Forrest Frank.”

If she could travel anywhere, Christy says she’d choose “anywhere tropical.” For now, she’s soaking up life at home with her husband Chris and their four amazing kids: Christian (13), Chrishon (10), Christopher (4), and Miracle (1). Their two dogs, Lady and Bella, complete the family and keep the house full of love and energy.

Christy’s inspiration to become a nurse came from her grandmother, and she’s especially grateful for mentors like Alex Cook, who made a meaningful impact on her journey.

Her advice for new nurse residents is honest, encouraging, and so very Christy: “Don’t be afraid to ask questions! You’re not expected to know everything out the gate, so don’t be afraid to ‘phone a friend.’”
Help us celebrate Christy and all the heart, dedication, and joy she brings to Lexington Health. We are so grateful to have her as part of our family 💚.

📣 Calling all May 2026 Nursing Graduates! Applications for our Summer 2026 Nurse Residency cohort are now open. Start your journey alongside inspiring team members like Christy and join a program built to help new RNs grow and thrive.

🌟 Beyond the Badge: RN Spotlight 🌟

Meet Julie James, a trusted leader, teacher, and registered nurse in our Emergency Department. For 24 years as an RN, and 15 years at Lexington Health , Julie has served as a staff nurse, charge relief nurse, and preceptor. She’s not only caring for patients but also shaping the next generation of nurses with knowledge, compassion, and heart.

Julie’s journey into nursing began with a love of medicine and pathophysiology, paired with a calling to help people in their time of need. That passion led her to Clemson University, where she earned her BSN before beginning her career. At Lexington Health, she found the perfect place to grow: a strong support system, resources that empower nurses to provide excellent patient care, and countless opportunities for continued education and professional development.

Her passion for teaching shines through everything she does. Julie helps instruct Trauma Nursing Core Course and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, serves as Chair of the Resident Committee, and mentors new nurses with her guiding philosophy: “If I don’t know the answer, I’ll help you find it.” 🙌

Family means everything to Julie. She's been married to her husband for 22 years and is the proud mom of a 17-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter, who she says brings her the greatest joy. She also has an adorable boxer mix named Maddie, who keeps her busy with her energetic personality! Julie is grateful for the constant support of her parents, her husband who patiently listens when she needs to process the day by reflecting out loud, and her kids who now know a little too much about the realities of ER life. 🐾👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Julie lives by a simple but powerful daily practice:

"I say a prayer before I come to work to keep us all safe, keep our patients safe, help me to help my coworkers and help me to be a good leader/teacher. Even when it’s hard."

Fun Facts about Julie:
🍕Her favorite comfort food is Pizza
🎵Her pump-up song before a shift is Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas
📖Her hobbies include walking, hiking, and reading
🐾One thing you may not know about Julie is that she has a degree in animal science (pre-vet) and worked on a dairy farm during her early years at Clemson!

Julie's dedication, leadership, and love for teaching make a lasting impact not just on her patients, but on every nurse who has learned from her along the way. We're incredibly grateful for all she brings to Lexington Health and the next generation of nurses.

💚 A reminder that beyond every badge lies a person with a rich, vibrant life. Stay tuned for February's Spotlight to meet another extraordinary member of our nursing team!
