🚗 LexMed Explorers: Distracted Driving Awareness 🚗

Last night, our Explorers dove into an eye-opening session led by our incredible Emergency Department Trauma team: "Distracted Driving Awareness: Stay Focused, Stay Safe".

With many of our students being new drivers, this seminar hit close to home. The Trauma team broke down the three major types of distractions — Visual, Manual, and Cognitive — and highlighted just how quickly they can turn dangerous behind the wheel.

One of the most impactful parts of the evening was the hands-on activities using Fatal Vision Goggles, which simulate the effects of alcohol and drug impairment. Our Explorers got a realistic look at how drastically intoxication can affect reaction time, coordination, and judgement.

A huge shoutout to our Trauma team for dedicating their time and expertise to educate our future drivers. Their engaging, interactive approach made this session both meaningful and memorable. Together, we're helping build safer habits and more aware young drivers in our community and we're already looking forward to next month's session!

🎉 Practice to Purpose: The People Behind the Practice 🎉

This month, we're excited to highlight Sarah Collins, an Office Registered Nurse at Lexington Pediatric Practice. Sarah joined the Lexington Health team in 2022, and she’s quickly become one of those people families naturally gravitate toward, the kind of nurse who brings calm to a busy day and genuine kindness to every interaction.

Sarah’s path into health care was shaped early on by two people who saw something special in her: her grandmother and her high school health science teacher. Their encouragement helped her discover a passion for caring for others, a passion she now brings to every patient she meets.

Originally from Florida, Sarah has also lived in Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. That mix of places shows up in her easygoing nature and her ability to connect with just about anyone.

Outside the office, Sarah is happiest with a good book, music playing in the background, or a cup of coffee in hand. She loves fantasy stories, Star Wars, concerts, and traveling whenever she gets the chance. And she has a couple of fun hidden talents: she can name most of the Buffalo Bills roster, and she can identify a Taylor Swift song after hearing just a few notes.

In her role, Sarah’s days move quickly ~ answering patient messages, helping room and settle in some of Lexington Health’s youngest patients, giving vaccines, collecting labs, and stepping in wherever her team needs her. What she loves most is getting to watch kids grow up and being part of their lives from infancy through their teenage years. She says the most rewarding moments are when patients remember her and are excited to see her. She’s proud of the confidence she’s gained as a nurse and carries with her the advice that has guided her well: “Take every day one step at a time. Don’t worry about yesterday or tomorrow.”

✨ From Practice to Purpose: A Q&A with Sarah ✨
Q: What's your favorite way to spend a weekend? A: "I like to spend time with my family and catch up on my current read."
Q: If you could spend a day doing anything, what would you choose? A: "Read, go to a concert, go to a football game, or travel."
Q: What is your favorite holiday or time of year? A: "My favorite holiday is Christmas!"
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or motto? A: "Everything that you lose is a step you take. So, make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it. You've got no reason to be afraid. - Taylor Swift"

💚 Behind every physician practice is a team member whose purpose, passion, and story bring care to life. From career journeys to personal favorites, these spotlights celebrate the people who make our Physician Network extraordinary.
