Today, I spoke on the Senate floor about an amendment that would have banned THC products in South Carolina.

My position was simple: while I believe ma*****na, THC, h**p, etc should be legalized, the question isn’t whether THC is good or bad. The real question is the proper role of government.

Government should PROMOTE the general welfare of the people... not mandate every personal decision adults make. There is a difference between educating the public and criminalizing behavior simply because some believe it is unhealthy.

After debate, the vote on the proposed ban failed.

I respect my colleagues who see this issue differently. but I will continue to stand for a simple principle: protecting the liberties of the people of South Carolina and ensuring government stays within its proper role.
