How do I do everything that I do?

I don't do it alone, that's for damn sure.

Today is my wife Julia Hodgson Art's birthday. She is my partner, my rock, my muse, and my best friend. She's an amazing psychologist in her own right (she runs the mental health training program at Courage Medicine in Philadelphia), and she allows me to effectively balance both aspects of my career: being a full-time clinical psychologist at NDC and being a professional speaker.

Every time I get offered a speaking gig, I sit down with Julia to talk about whether this opportunity makes sense for our family, since much of the burden of me being gone (even for a good reason) falls on her. To say yes to something means that it has to first work for our family. To say yes as much as I do means that she takes on a tremendous level of responsibility for our family, especially our two kids.

And I am infinitely grateful for her for letting me do this. And since I've been given this platform, I wanted to take a moment to thank her VERY publicly.

When you see someone who is a successful public figure, make sure that you remember that they don't ever do it alone. There's love and support behind us that allows us to be out there and changing the world. And they often do it silently, behind the scenes, for no credit.

I love you Julia. Thank you for everything that you do for me and our family. I'm forever in your debt and cannot do it without you. Never forget how much I appreciate you.
