So brave and cool when celebs are open about there mental health struggles…

I think it helps debunk the fantasy that someone somewhere “out there” has it all together. Everyone struggles… and the more we can talk openly about it the more people will feel OK to reach out for help.

As a therapist I help others and love what I do. But I am human, have struggles… but I remind myself that is what makes me great at what I do. People don’t want a “robot therapist” instead we want to know that there’s a real human, whose been through it, on their team.

Let’s have some compassion for ourselves today. There’s been so much weighty topics happening in the wold, and we’re all navigating this path together. ❤️🧠

Here’s a very clear outline my lovely friend Heather sent me that explains things in a straightforward manner.

Went to a great art show yesterday about a friend’s journey of emotional highs and lows while training to run the LA marathon.

It was awesome to see a guy in his 30s be open and vulnerable. I know it wasn’t easy. Being forthcoming about your story and sharing your art never is. Unexpected thing was seeing the show freed me up to let myself feel my feelings. Think about my own ups and downs over the last year, past relationships & lessons I have learned from them. Main thing I took away is that if I am feeling I am ALIVE. So even though sometimes I don’t feel I like I want to go through difficult emotions…. I can and I will.

It reminded me that the hardest points in our life could years later be the inspiration for an art show, a story the helps a friend, or a film…Sky’s the limit. 2022 has already started off differently than I might have expected. But I’m challenging myself to look for the silver lining. The hope. Glad you ran the marathon Greg!

Can it be about the small wins in 2022? … I think so!

I almost didn’t post this because it felt not BIG enough as a win. It’s just cooking for yourself & being a little goofy with the celebration. But then I thought about it more the small wins is exactly what I am always helping people acknowledge… and trying to find some levity amidst all the very heavy world issues…

So my small win this week is making some high protein banana bread from one of my favorite inspirational people Robin Arzon

What’s your small win? How can we give ourselves more credit and acknowledge more wins this week?

The first “batch” of December holidays might be over….But, it’s OK to still be having waves of difficult feelings. Sad, angry, disappointment you’re not alone.

Holidays, often times through movies or social media can trigger an expectation of what we’re supposed to be doing, feeling. Basically a bit of a fantasy.

A lot of times feelings might come in a delayed manner. That’s normal. Sometimes it takes time to process.

If you’ve been in therapy a while and feel like you’ve put in the “work” but at times a new area to focus on arises. I get it.. it can feel frustrating.

Today I encourage you to both feel your feelings and consider a reframe….

I’m glad I am FEELING not shoving my feelings down with food, alcohol, or drugs. If I am feeling that means I am alive and am up to the challenge of learning and exploring this aspect of what’s coming up.

Have unrealistic expectations for yourself, goal achievement and maybe even your relationships?

As a therapist PERFECTIONISM is a frequent topic. Let's be honest...there's so much pressure..starting with growing up and being expected to "get all As" or being the "best" at your job in order to get that promotion. Or even having the expectation that you should "never" have a disagreement with your boyfriend/girlfriend/or spouse

Do you relate? Take a look at a great article on this topic...

Does this personality trait help us flourish and succeed, or can it hinder our happiness and harm our mental health? In this Spotlight, we explore.
