182 years ago this week, a military commission established by Henry Sibley began trying 392 Dakota Warriors for alleged war crimes. In just a few weeks, 303 were sentenced to death.

38 were ultimately executed that December, in 1862, following the order of President Abraham Lincoln. It is the largest mass ex*****on in U.S. history— carried out right here in Mankato, Minnesota. This is not talked about enough in any history class.

Indigenous history is American history.
