Happy First Day of Spring 💐!

We had a morning full of laughter 😂 and smiles 😃 as the residents made mini hamburgers 🍔 at our “Fun with Food” class!

Thanks to Activity Assistant Natalie for sharing the suggested recipe of Nilla Wafers Hamburger Cookies (ingredients were vanilla wafers, thin mint Girl Scout cookies, four colors of frosting aka the condiments, a little honey 🍯, and gold sprinkles in place of the sesame seeds)…

We also held morning Catholic Communion & Blessings (thanks 🙏 to Volunteer Peggy), as well as our afternoon activities: Book Club (titles read today were “Amazing Amelia Earhart” and “Lady Liberty”), Women’s History Month Trivia, another Girl Scout Cookie Social, and ending the day with Marilyn Jerome’s Guitar Music 🎶!

*Our Life Enrichment Team has decided to replace large group Baking Club with the Fun with Food class sessions, so that more residents can participate. Please reach out to Michelle if you have an idea to share with our residents😊. Thanks!

🤗Today we enjoyed visits from ARL TheraPet team Jada Mae the dog and Volunteer Lynette, Betsy from the West Des Moines Library, and after lunchtime dog visits with Emmy (along with mom Katie and dad Mike)! A few friends in our Aspen neighborhood played an afternoon game of Dominoes, too!

Happy Social Worker Day to Beth 💚👏💚!

We enjoyed our Live2BHealthy class this morning, led by Melanie, and then held a joint social this afternoon in celebration of the holiday and Beth. March is recognized as Social Worker Appreciation Month and today was “Beth’s day”👏…the Arbor Springs Choir (residents, staff and guests) sang a few songs and ended with “For She’s A Jolly Good Fellow”. Beth has been a social worker for 14 years and will celebrate her one year Arbor Springs anniversary next month!

💚Celebrating (Early) St Patrick’s Day with:
BINGO and popcorn 🍿 with our Link Volunteers this morning AND then special holiday crafts/color therapy this afternoon!

Today we also had our rolling eyeglasses 👓 cleaning cart after lunch (thanks Michelle) AND our re-scheduled InstruMix class (thanks Barbara) from February. Barbara will be back in two weeks for her March class in The Cafe & ALL are welcome to attend 🤗!

Thanks to all our residents, family members, staff, and guests for attending today’s activities!

💚This morning featured our Green Things Social and we offered green punch, green apple 🍏 slices, green grapes, and dill pickles 🥒. There was also caramel dip, cookies, & coffee. Michelle read some trivia about the color green and also the upcoming holiday: St Patrick’s Day.

🥧This afternoon we served up peach 🍑 pie for National 3.14 Pi Day and welcomed back author Terri Leedom. She had a presentation from her newest book, “Play the Game” and a copy has been placed in our Family Resources bookshelf in the front lobby. Feel free to browse, borrow, read & then return. To end our time together, Terri read her first book “My Silly Granny” aloud and was available for caregivers’ questions.

Here’s our belated photos from Friday’s activities, which were definitely full of music 🎶 and smiles 😃…Jackie led the morning Music Therapy circle, made complete with dancing, and Laura held her Arbor Strings session in the afternoon!

We had a really fun 🤩 time with our Montessori Focus today: Celebrate Families! Huge thanks 🙏 to Ryan from St Croix Hospice for kicking off the reminiscing program of “Family Heirlooms & Collectibles”. Additional folks sharing aloud this morning were Bob & Bette H, Michelle H, Christina P, and the para helper from Valley Kids.

Many of the residents took the Coat of Arms worksheet back to their Neighborhoods. All were encouraged to draw ✍️ their family shield. This was a previous paper from volunteer Becca and A Window Between Worlds organization.

Before lunch, residents received their monthly visit from the Brookview Elementary School 1st Graders. The students sang three songs about leprechauns, answered aloud the question “What would you want in a pot of gold?”, and also delivered their St Patrick’s Day ☘️ door decorations! Thanks to Michelle, Kate & Beth for helping these young people (& teachers) move thru all of our six neighborhoods.

Hello 👋 from all of us at Arbor Springs-
As we began the day, we had snow ❄️ and then this afternoon, the sun ☀️ came out…that’s living in Iowa!

Here is your mid-week reminder to please stop by Eric’s office door and sign his poster of appreciation for Administrator Week.

We are grateful that Music Therapy Appreciation Month continued with a morning performance from St Croix Hospice 👏❤️🎶!

We are also happy to announce the EveryStep Hospice spring-themed poster went up today. Everyone is invited to stop by the therapy gym hallway and help color it 🖍️🙌!

We started early in celebration 🎉of National Girl Scout Day (3/12) by serving a variety of Girl Scout cookies 😋 this afternoon at the Dietician’s Social. Brianne Fink is our Registered Dietician who has been at Arbor Springs 5 years now. We want to sincerely thank 🙏 her for the job she does!

We invite families to share an heirloom or favorite collectible during the 10:30 AM activity tomorrow and encourage everyone to share a craft suggestion for anytime this month. Thanks to Jim S’ Family (wife Jan) for already sharing several creative craft ideas 💡!

A HUGE thank you 🙏 to Mini Dreams Ranch (& owner Lacey) for bringing in two baby goats for morning visits & pet therapy 💚💚🐐🐐🤗🤗!

One was one month old (“Jonny” or Jon, an acronym of a name which was short for jonny oreo noodle) and the other was one week old (unnamed at the moment). The residents, family members, and staff all enjoyed giving the goats some love 🥰, as evident from their smiles 😃!

We also held our Book Club (with Andrea & Kate) and then Bible Study (led by St Croix Hospice) this afternoon in The Cafe.

We extend another thank you to Suncrest Hospice & the Neptune Cremation Service for dropping off a basket of Easter-themed 🐰door decorations and word searches for next month.

Belated thank you’s to Jim S’ family and Gracie B (& family) for their recent in kind donations.
