Join the Iowa/Illinois Safety Council and listen to speaker Adam Moskowitz discuss how employers can build safer, stronger, and more recovery-ready workplaces across the Midwest at our Safety Conference in Coralville, IA April 22-23rd.
Substance use and mental health challenges continue to impact recruitment, retention, and overall workforce well-being. Yet, many employers are eager to lead the way—they just need the right tools, knowledge, and support.
In this session, we will:
🔎 Assess the current landscape of recovery-readiness among Midwest employers
🏢 Identify key elements of a Recovery Friendly Workplace and why they matter for safety culture
💼 Recognize the critical role employers play in long-term workforce health and productivity
🤝 Explore collaboration strategies to close gaps in resources and implementation
Survey findings highlight both growing interest and persistent barriers. In response, the Healthier Workforce Center at the University of Iowa has developed a Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) designation program for Iowa employers—modeled after a national initiative—to reduce stigma, improve access to treatment, and create supportive environments for employees in recovery.
