I came across this awesome blog post by "Mom and me PT" about SIDE PREFERENCE vs. TORTICOLLIS. Regardless of which condition - both should be addressed as early as possible by a specialized infant PT!

If you notice your baby is always looking to either the right or the left, there are a couple things it could be… This can happen because of a “turn preference”, which means your baby is...

I am loving this walker as a first push toy! It looks perfectly stable and slow for our beginner standers 😊

The Fisher-Price 2-Sided Steady Speed Panda Walker is an interactive learning toy that “grows” with your baby from sitting to pulling up and taking their first steps. This unique, panda-themed baby walker lets little ones stand and push along from either side with helpful Steady Speed wheels to ...

I always get so many questions related to infant palates, mouth breathing, and snoring babies! . Thanks Dr Shereen Lim for a great post!

Childhood snoring alters brain structure.

“This is the largest study of its kind detailing the association between snoring and brain abnormalities,” said study lead author Amal Isaiah, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery and Pediatrics at UMSOM. “These brain changes are similar to what you would see in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Children have a loss of cognitive control, which is additionally associated with disruptive behavior.”

Looking for a gift idea for your baby this holiday season? Stay away from infant walkers (the kind the baby sits in). They are hazardous and actually do NOT even promote typical walking! Instead, try a push toy!

Tongue tie terminology is confusing

The first tip off that you're dealing with a provider who doesn't understand what a posterior tongue tie is (often the case with ENTs) is that they hear the phrase "posterior tongue tie" and think that the tie is somewhere near the posterior tongue. That is definitely not the case.

The term "posterior tongue tie" is a terrible one. It's a misnomer and has caused significant confusion. Unlike obviously visible anterior tongue tie (which bind the anterior tongue), a posterior tongue tie does NOT bind the posterior tongue. It actually bind the middle of the tongue, and it is the upward movement of the tongue that is impeded. There isn't anything that really binds the posterior tongue.

So if your provider is looking in the back of the throat for a posterior tongue tie, you should skiddaddle right out of that office and find yourself who understands the terminology.

I love this post by -

And also remember that it’s generally okay for kids to sit like this sometimes, but most professionals recommend finding an alternative position if this one is frequently used.
