Independent Nursing Care LLC "Completing your circle of care"
At home, at work, and while away Independent Nursing Care, LLC was established in March, 1988.

In the beginning, Registered Nurses served as independent practitioners, working directly for their patients. Founders Mark and Julie Gemerek realized that their patients and clients could enjoy better overall health with additional services, so in 1995, we were licensed by the New York State Department of Health to provide a wide variety of health care services to families, companies, senior centers and individuals throughout New York State. Our mission and purpose is to complete your circle of care by promoting, maintaining and restoring overall good health, and well-being for the entire community- at home, at work and away.

Happy National Immune System Day and the surprisingly real National Wash Your Nose Day! While it sounds a bit funny, your nasal passages are your immune systemโ€™s first line of defense against the outside world. ๐Ÿฆ

Every day your nose filters out thousands of tiny particles like dust, pollen, and bacteria before they can ever reach your lungs. Think of it like the air filter in your car or furnace. If the filter gets too "clogged" or dry, your immune system has to work twice as hard to keep you healthy. ๐Ÿ’จ

The Nursing Tip: This is why "nasal hygiene" is a real thing in healthcare. Using a simple saline spray or even just staying hydrated keeps those filters working perfectly. It is a small step that can prevent those nagging spring colds and keep your immune system from getting overwhelmed. ๐Ÿฉบ

Since it is also National Nutrition Month, remember that your "filters" need internal support too. Foods high in Vitamin C and Zinc like citrus and pumpkin seeds help your body repair those barriers so you stay protected all season long. ๐ŸŠ

Did you know that out of over 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients, only one of them has been a woman? ๐Ÿ…โœจ

As we continue Women's History Month, we want to introduce you to Dr. Mary Edwards Walker. She was a surgeon during the Civil War who refused to let the era's limitations stop her from saving lives. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿฅ

Mary did not just stay in the hospitals. She frequently crossed battle lines to treat civilians and wounded soldiers on both sides. She was eventually captured by Confederate forces and spent four months as a prisoner of war. โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ”—

Even after her release, she never stopped advocating for healthcare and women's rights. She famously wore "menโ€™s" clothing because she believed it was more practical and sanitary for medical work. She was a true pioneer of independent care. ๐Ÿ‘ข๐Ÿงฅ

At Independent Nursing Care, we are inspired by that kind of relentless dedication. It reminds us that providing great care often means thinking outside the box and standing your ground. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ

They called her "The Ice Woman" and she is the reason your groceries are safe to eat today. โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ›’

As we celebrate Women's History Month and National Nutrition Month, we have to talk about Dr. Mary Engle Pennington. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŽ

In the early 1900s, food safety was a disaster. People were constantly getting sick from spoiled milk and meat because there was no reliable way to keep things cold during transport. Mary changed everything. ๐Ÿฅ›๐Ÿฅฉ

The Grit: Despite being told that industrial work was no place for a woman, Mary spent her career climbing into refrigerated train cars and slaughterhouses to inspect conditions. She did not just study chemistry. She engineered the first standards for the "cold chain." This is the system that keeps your food fresh from the farm to your fridge. ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿข

The Takeaway: Nutrition is not just about what you eat. It is about how that food is protected. At Independent Nursing Care, we know that safety and health are inseparable. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ

Todayโ€™s Challenge: Check your fridge temperature! It should be at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit to keep your food fresh and your family safe. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ๐Ÿ

What is the one thing in your fridge that you always make sure you have in stock? Let us know below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

You received your very first "report card" exactly 60 seconds after you were born. ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ“ˆ

If youโ€™ve ever heard of an Apgar Score, you have Dr. Virginia Apgar to thank. As we continue Womenโ€™s History Month, we have to talk about this legend.

In 1952, the medical world didn't have a standardized way to check if a newborn was actually doing okay. Dr. Apgar, one of the few female board-certified anesthesiologists at the time, changed that on the back of a hospital cafeteria napkin.

๐ŸฆธThe Legend: Virginia was known for being "ready for anything." She famously carried a pocketknife and a piece of tubing in her purse at all times, just in case she needed to perform an emergency tracheotomy in the street. ๐Ÿ”ช๐Ÿ‘œ

Do you know your Apgar score? Or your kids'? Drop a โค๏ธ if youโ€™re thankful for the innovators who look out for us from minute one!

Did you know your ears don't actually "hear" anything? Your brain does. ๐Ÿง

Happy World Hearing Day! Today isnโ€™t just about volume; itโ€™s about the incredible way our bodies process the world.
Have you ever been in a loud, crowded room and suddenly heard your name mentioned across the way? Thatโ€™s the "Cocktail Party Effect." Even when your ears are bombarded with noise, your brain is "independently" filtering thousands of data points to find what actually matters to you.

The Reality Check: Hearing loss is often "invisible." For many, it isn't just about things getting quieterโ€”itโ€™s about the brain losing its ability to filter that "background noise." This is why social settings can become so exhausting for our seniors; their brains are working overtime just to decode a single conversation.

Todayโ€™s Challenge: Take 5 minutes of total silence today. If you notice a persistent ringing or a "muffled" sensation afterward, it might be time for a check-up.

Tell us: What is your absolute favorite sound in the world? (Mine is the sound of a coffee pot at 6:00 AM โ˜•). Let us know below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Forget what you know about 19th-century nurses!

As we kick off Women's History Month this Sunday, everyone will be talking about Florence Nightingale. But have you heard of Mary Seacole?

During the Crimean War in the 1850s, Mary, a British-Jamaican healer, was rejected by the government to be a war nurse. So, she funded her own trip, traveled to the front lines, and built the "British Hotel" out of salvaged driftwood and metal. She rode out to the battlefields while fighting was still happening to treat the wounded.

Nursing has always been a profession built on pure grit. Who is a caregiver, nurse, or strong woman in your life that goes above and beyond? Tag them below so we can celebrate them! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Happy Presidents' Day! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today we take a moment to celebrate the history of our nation and the leaders who have guided it.
Fun Fact of the Day: Did you know that Ulysses S. Grant once got a "speeding ticket" while in office? In 1872, the 18th U.S. President was pulled over and fined $20 for riding his horse-drawn buggy too fast down a street in Washington, D.C.! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’จ
