As some of you were aware I have been involved in a court case with Sanford that wrapped up today. Many of you have checked in with us to see how things are going. We are thankful that the jury of 12 sided with us. I’ll end with saying this:
I leave this courtroom today with my head held high. This case was never about the money. It was about the fact that Sanford tried to trick my patients into staying at Sanford, to retain them by using deceptive practices. This is a case of David versus Goliath. I couldn’t sit back and let them bully me. I had to stand up for what I knew to be right.
In the end, the departing physician letter policy has changed at Sanford. No longer will letters be sent out written in the first person which are not authored or authorized or signed by the doctor. This change is huge for not only me and my patients but for this whole community. And for that I will sleep better at night, knowing that I had a part in making that happen.
I am grateful for the jury and the time and careful consideration they devoted to my case. I’m grateful that I am able to continue to see my patients, and I am grateful for all of their support over the last two-and-a-half years. I wouldn’t have got this far without my outstanding legal team. I also want to thank my family for their unwavering support during the past 975 days.
