Now let's hope that beautiful tree can do it again tonight!

Nigel and I got a call from an alumni that the hive at the farm had swarmed. This formation in the photo is called bearding. Scout bees then go out and look for a new home that they can relocate to. They are now busy bees in their new hive up in our tree fort, (safest place from the bears).

Hope this finds you healthy and well. We certainly have had a string a beautiful days to remind us of how spring feels, lovely.
We are having to make the difficult decision to cancel the workshop scheduled for Saturday, March 21 with Bryan O'Hara. We are going to reschedule it and will send something out once we see how things begin to shape up. In the meantime, take some time to be outside and watch the amazing spring changes going on around us, it is some of our best medicine.

Warmly,
Joan

The Institute of Sustainable Nutrition integrates traditional food wisdom with the science of nutrition creating an innovative model of holistic health education.

Our comprehensive culinary program provides the tools, knowledge, and motivation needed to cook and to eat in balance with the seasons and the environment. As the kitchen is the heart of a healthy home, the TIOSN kitchen is the place where nutrition, foraging, and the harvest come together. Classes feature locally sourced produce and products used to create recipes that sustain good health, and lay a solid foundation for continued experimentation and learning in your own home.

Here we have a throwback to one of our favorite guest speakers, Jonathan Stevens of Hungry Ghost Bread located in Northampton, MA. Guest speakers bring a fresh, sometimes surprising, always interesting exploration into the weekend subjects. We are always grateful for these opportunities to collaborate, and we believe the best way to learn is by doing.

We have been busy in the kitchen medicine classes working on Winter Health Care. We have made our famous Elderberry Elixir, amazing fire cider and herbal vitamin C pastilles. We learned how to make Ghee and then used it to make delicious turmeric paste, so tasty!

See that frost? It’s almost time to put the garden to bed for the winter! There’s still a little time left for some of those transplants you’ve been putting off, or splitting up some perennials, but hurry before the ground freezes!
What are some of your practices when it comes time to tuck everything in? Do you mineralize your soil? Do you mulch? Do you have any last minute harvests left?
What do you do to prepare your garden for that inevitable blanket of snow?
