Thanks. all you friends of VIP [going into Giving Tuesday]! Our 25th Anniversary Newsletter will soon be available on our website, or can be sent to you if you'd like to join our mailing list [by postal mail or email]... just let us know. Thank you for all your help and support which has allowed us to offer strictly private, no-fee therapy to people who've [in turn] earned that therapy by helping others through privately documented volunteer work of their choice. People we serve have done more than 45,000 hours of volunteering to earn over 11,000 therapy sessions since 1999. You are our partners in keeping VIP's service going -- something to be truly thankful for.

VIP awarded funding from the West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund. Just announced: VIP will receive $6,000 underwriting our provision of truly private psychotherapy, with no managed care intrusions -- that local people earn in exchange for volunteer work of their choice. Thanks for this help and endorsement of VIP's work! https://www.facebook.com/WHGTCF

The purpose of the Greater Together Community Funds program is to:

support the community in taking ownership around the needs in their towns

encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement and

anchor the Hartford Foundation in each town.

"Mad in America presented readers with a 'counter-narrative' that told of how psychiatry’s own research, which could be dug out from the research literature, did not support the story of great progress that psychiatry had been telling the American public ever since it published DSM III."

You can read science writer [former Director of Publications at Harvard Medical School] Robert Whitaker's critique of the misleading manipulation of psychiatric research... a great introduction to the falsehoods often promoted in the field. For even more background, there are dozens of Reading List entries on the Volunteers In Psychotherapy website:

We can assess whether Mad in America readers or JAMA Psychiatry readers are being provided with the most robust scientific literature.
