🙋‍♀️ “I don’t know what to do anymore. My mom’s been so mean today. This has to be the dementia, right?”

When someone comes to me like this, frustrated, exhausted, needing answers, I’ve learned that the first thing they need is support.

🗣️ Support starts with listening and validating, not rushing to solve the problem.

And here’s the truth:

✅ People living with dementia are still people.
✅ They’re allowed to have bad days, feel annoyed, or want space.
✅ A dementia diagnosis doesn’t erase someone’s right to say “not today.”

Sometimes it’s the disease.
Sometimes… it’s just a rough day.

How do YOU handle it when your loved one or client suddenly doesn’t want to talk or be around you?

🛑 “But she was totally fine yesterday…” unfortunately I hear this panic all the time, but here’s the truth:

👉 Dementia usually doesn’t change overnight.
👉 Sudden confusion often means something else is going on.
👉 UTIs, dehydration, infections, meds — these can flip a person’s world fast.

Don’t assume it’s “just the dementia, think PAM.”

➡️ If your loved one was fine yesterday and seems totally off today, call the doctor. It might be something you can fix.

We talk about this exact scenario in this week’s episode of Let’s Talk About It.

She Came Back. And We Couldn’t Be Happier.

Evelyn was part of the Pansy family for years.
Then life changed, including her availability, which we could not fulfill at that time, so she made the best choice she could and took another job.

But here’s the thing…
She reached out on her own over a year later—because she missed what made Pansy different.

“The other agencies didn’t have my back. You did. I missed how easy it was to talk to you.”

Today, Evelyn is back with us—on the schedule she needed, surrounded by a team who supports her.
We hugged, and then we got back to doing what we do best: caring for others together.

👉 To any caregiver wondering if they could come back:
Yes. You can. We understand that life shifts. Our door is always open.

Who Cares? Pansy Cares!

Pansy Homecare Service started through the lens of a caregiver, which gives us a different perspective. With 30 years of experience as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Pansy P. Francis started our agency to continue to foster the same level of care and love to the rest of the Hartford County, that her clients grew accustomed to.

Our approach starts by working with you to develop and care plan that works for you, to address your needs and daily goals.

Next is our caregivers, who are paired to compliment and assist you with those daily goals. Being a caregiver is a very personal career which requires one to be genuinely compassionate, attentive and patient. Each of our caregivers is trained by Pansy herself and must pass an in-depth exam before working with one of our clients. Our caregivers are expected to display why Pansy every shift as they continue to make clients feel happy and healthy in the comforts home.

Then, we set in place the proper assurances to ensure our clients are being treated and cared for properly and care plans are being executed the right way (ask us how).
