We are deeply saddened to hear that CCMC and Yale are closing their pediatric gender-affirming care programs and our hearts are with all the youth who relied on these services. A colleague shared this resource today. We will post additional resources here as we hear about them.

Too often, conversations about mental health leave out the systems that cause the harm in the first place.

This BIPOC Mental Health Month, let’s be clear: LGBTQ+ BIPOC young people are not “at risk” because of who they are. They’re at risk because of what they face: racism, queerphobia, erasure, violence, and the compounding trauma of being excluded from care & safety.

A statement from the NASW National Committee on Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Q***r + Issues:

The Supreme Court’s tragic decision to uphold Skrmetti legalizes discrimination against trans, gender diverse, intersex, non-binary, and queer+ youth. This harmful ruling goes against everything our profession is rooted in. Social work ethics demand that we protect dignity, confront injustice, and defend safety, access, and self-determination. NASW supports laws that expand access and equity to gender-affirming care at local, state, and federal levels. We oppose all policies that cause harm, restrict autonomy, undermine social work best practices, or deny young people the care they need to survive and thrive.
