Trauma triggers can affect daily life in many ways. Despite efforts to fully understand them, these triggers can surface abruptly due to the brain's drive to survive.

Practices like CPR for the amygdala, paired with self-compassion, love, and kindness, can serve as proactive support to calm the brain and reduce the recurrence of triggers.

The timing of symptom onset for PTSD can vary.

While some may experience symptoms within a few weeks or months, others may not develop PTSD until several years later. The delayed onset of symptoms highlights the complex nature of PTSD and the need for continued support and understanding for those who have experienced trauma.

It is important to recognize that the delayed onset of symptoms does not diminish the seriousness of the trauma experienced. Regardless of when symptoms manifest, anyone who has experienced trauma deserves compassion and support.

Supporting someone on their recovery journey can be really meaningful, but it can also be exhausting and might require putting personal needs on hold. This self-sacrifice can sneak up and lead to burnout if not managed carefully.

Keeping a healthy balance means caring for personal well-being and building a solid support system. Taking breaks, expressing emotions, and reaching out when needed are all part of sustaining that support. Keep going.

Individuals may go through a period of relative calm before symptoms of PTSD show up. Some traumatic experiences may initially overwhelm the individual's ability to process and cope with the emotions attached to the event. And over time, as the mind and body attempt to integrate and make sense of the trauma, symptoms may gradually arise.

Each individual's ability to cope with trauma and build resilience is unique. Some individuals may have effective coping mechanisms and strong support systems that help them initially navigate the aftermath of a traumatic event. However, as time passes and new stressors arise, they may become more vulnerable, leading to PTSD.

Here's the truth:

Grief can be triggered by loneliness, trauma, or even watching others thrive. It can show up in unexpected ways, like physical symptoms or emotional reactions. But grieving is also a sign of strength. It means there was care, there was love, and no fear in feeling.

And it's important to make space for grief and to feel all the feels. Remember that this journey is not walked alone.

Your love doesnโ€™t end. Your healing doesnโ€™t erase the memory. Letโ€™s help you create space for both. Click the link in bio for more details. ๐Ÿ”—

If you've ever felt the tug in your heart that our communities deserve more compassion and that healing can be more human and less hidden, then I invite you to join me this August 3- 6 at The Empower Collaboration in Ramona, CA, for the Leadership Exploration and Discovery Conference.

Iโ€™ve seen how unspoken shame can keep us isolated and how silence can build walls where we need bridges. At this gathering, Iโ€™ll be exploring how we can create spaces where those walls come down, where conversations spark possibilities, and where we, as providers, advocates, and humans, can reimagine whatโ€™s possible in our work and our lives.

Itโ€™s a chance to connect with others who are walking similar pathsโ€”whether youโ€™re guiding those healing from addiction, finding your footing, or working to create change in your corner of the world. Together, weโ€™ll celebrate resilience, challenge old systems, and build a brighter future for behavioral health.

I genuinely believe weโ€™re stronger when we come together, and I would be honored to have you there.

๐Ÿ’™ Learn more and join us at www.theempowercollaboration.com. Letโ€™s do this, together.

Struggling with trauma can make it difficult to navigate the pain. The brain and body are working to keep survival at the forefront, even when the experience feels overwhelming. Self-judgment and shame only create more barriers to healing.

It helps to take a moment and choose gentleness. Embracing tenderness and allowing space to breathe can begin to shift the experience.

Be gentle. Be tender. Healing starts here. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

Have you ever found yourself thinking, โ€œI should be over this by nowโ€ โ€ฆ or โ€œWhy do I always mess things up?โ€ Maybe itโ€™s the quiet voice that says, โ€œIโ€™m not good enough,โ€ even when life looks โ€œfineโ€ on the outside.

I want you to know something: Youโ€™re not broken. Youโ€™re not alone. And those thoughts? They arenโ€™t the truth of who you are. Theyโ€™re survival strategies your brain learned long ago. The beautiful thing is that your brain can change. And so can your story.

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m deeply honored to be a featured speaker in AVAIYA Universityโ€™s upcoming (and free) online series, Overcoming Limiting Thoughts & Beliefs, which starts July 9th. For 7 days, more than 40 expertsโ€”including psychologists, neuroscientists, and trauma-informed leadersโ€”will come together to share fundamental tools and powerful strategies for shifting the beliefs that hold us back from living fully.

In my talk, โ€œRewiring Limiting Beliefs Through Neuroplasticity and Brain Partnership,โ€ Iโ€™ll walk you through how to identify when your brain is stuck in old pain, how to partner with your nervous system, and how you can literally reshape your brainโ€™s internal wiring to support healing and resilience. These are the exact techniques Iโ€™ve used in both my personal healing and in my clinical work with thousands of clients.

PTSD is often associated with hypervigilance, nightmares, and flashbacks, but there are many lesser-known symptoms that can also have a significant impact.

Executive functioning difficulties, dissociation, depression, and substance use are common comorbidities with PTSD. These symptoms can make it difficult to concentrate, pay attention, maintain conversations, or even leave the house. They may lead to isolation, loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, and self-destructive behaviors.

If any of these symptoms are present, it is important to seek support from a trauma-informed therapist. With the right care, healing is possible.
