This past week, my body staged an intervention on me.

For decades, I’ve been the one called into crisis, flying across the country, sitting with families, helping others see what they cannot see about themselves. I thought I knew how to read the signs.

But this time, I missed my own.

Stress, loss, exhaustion, and illness quietly built in the background while I kept pushing forward. Until my body finally said, enough.

Pneumonia, organ failure, and a midnight ambulance ride reminded me that even helpers need help… and even the strongest among us are still human.

Coming home and hearing what my husband and loved ones endured while I was fighting to survive shook me deeply. Their love, their presence, and their courage carried me when I could not carry myself.

So here is what I want you to hear from me today:

Please listen to your body.
Please allow yourself to be cared for.
Please remember that strength is not just pushing through, sometimes it’s letting yourself be held.

I’m rebuilding. I’m healing. And I am not done yet.

Not even close.

With love,
Louise

Kratom is being sold as “natural.” But natural doesn’t always mean safe.

Walk into almost any gas station or v**e shop and you’ll see brightly colored packages promising wellness, calm, focus, or energy.

What many families don’t realize is that these products, often labeled as kratom, can carry real risks, especially for teenagers.

After more than 35 years working with families facing addiction and substance use, I’ve learned something important: the most dangerous substances are often the ones hiding in plain sight.

Kratom is unregulated in many places. It’s easy to access. And it’s being marketed in ways that feel harmless, even healthy.

But I’ve seen the consequences.

If you’re a parent, a loved one, or someone concerned about a young person in your life, this is your reminder to stay informed, stay curious, and stay engaged. Conversations save lives.

Awareness creates protection. Action creates change.

Don’t wait until it becomes a crisis.

If you have questions or concerns, reach out. I’m here to help.

If you don’t try, you guarantee the outcome.

Growth requires courage. Healing requires action. Transformation begins the moment you decide you are worth the effort.

Too many people wait for the “right time,” the perfect conditions, or absolute certainty. But progress doesn’t come from waiting, it comes from stepping forward, even when your voice shakes.

You cannot accomplish what you refuse to attempt.

Take the step. Make the call. Do the work.

Your future self is waiting.

I believe it takes about seven seconds for someone to feel whether you truly trust them.

Seven seconds to sense safety.
Seven seconds to feel seen.
Seven seconds to know you’re not being judged.

When someone walks into my office, they are often carrying fear, shame, or uncertainty. Before any strategy, before any plan, before any intervention, trust must be established.

Because transformation begins the moment a person feels safe enough to believe that you believe in them.

If you or someone you love is struggling, know this: you will be met with compassion, respect, and unwavering support.

I’m here to help.

There’s something special about slowing down and truly enjoying the village moments.

This week in Del Mar, I wandered into the sweetest little gem, Julie’s Beach Life, and instantly felt the joy the moment I walked through the door.

Beautifully curated, full of heart, and owned by the most wonderful woman, Julie, who truly makes everyone feel welcome.

It’s places like this that remind me how powerful community, kindness, and thoughtful spaces really are. 🤍🌊

I’ve learned that real strength isn’t about control, it’s about compassion.

It’s about listening before speaking, and showing up even when the work is hard.

For more than 35 years, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside families during their most vulnerable moments.

I’ve seen pain, fear, and heartbreak, but I’ve also witnessed resilience, healing, and hope rise where people thought it was impossible.

This work is my calling. I believe no one should struggle alone, and help should feel human, personal, and immediate. If you’re reading this and your heart feels heavy, please know: support is closer than you think.

Healing is possible. And it always begins with one brave step forward. 🤍

For years, I’ve sat with families in their most vulnerable moments, when fear is loud, answers feel far away, and hope feels fragile.

I’ve learned that the right conversation at the right time can change everything.

That’s why I’m so excited to introduce Ask Dr. Louise—a space for honest questions, real guidance, and compassionate truth.

This podcast is for anyone seeking clarity, healing, and the courage to take the next step forward.

You don’t have to have all the answers.
You just have to be willing to ask.

Coming soon.
