This past week, my body staged an intervention on me.
For decades, I’ve been the one called into crisis, flying across the country, sitting with families, helping others see what they cannot see about themselves. I thought I knew how to read the signs.
But this time, I missed my own.
Stress, loss, exhaustion, and illness quietly built in the background while I kept pushing forward. Until my body finally said, enough.
Pneumonia, organ failure, and a midnight ambulance ride reminded me that even helpers need help… and even the strongest among us are still human.
Coming home and hearing what my husband and loved ones endured while I was fighting to survive shook me deeply. Their love, their presence, and their courage carried me when I could not carry myself.
So here is what I want you to hear from me today:
Please listen to your body.
Please allow yourself to be cared for.
Please remember that strength is not just pushing through, sometimes it’s letting yourself be held.
I’m rebuilding. I’m healing. And I am not done yet.
Not even close.
With love,
Louise
