Some people are like this.

Layered.
Held together by something delicate, almost invisible.

From the outside, it looks effortless, composed, even beautiful.
But look closer and you will see
how much is being carried quietly.

The past is still there.
Pressed into the present.
Not erased, just integrated.

And the truth is
not everyone knows how to hold something like this.

Not everyone understands that beauty
can come from what has been pieced together,
not from what has never been broken.

So if someone steps back, hesitates, or goes quiet
it does not always mean you did something wrong.

Sometimes it means
they do not yet have the hands
to hold something this intricate.

And you

You do not simplify yourself
to be easier to carry.

You remain whole.

Some people build their lives on the surface.
Others choose something harder to explain.

This image isn’t about isolation—it’s about intention.
About choosing depth over convenience, even when the climb back to the world looks long and narrow.

Therapy often asks the same thing of us.
Not why did you end up so far down, but what did you need that only depth could give you?

There’s safety in staying where everyone else lives.
There’s meaning in going where you can finally hear yourself think.

If you’ve built your home somewhere quiet, distant, or misunderstood,
it doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It may mean you’re protecting something precious.

This reflection is offered through an avatar—an intentional layer of distance that mirrors the work of therapy itself:

Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong” with you.
It’s about understanding what happened to you—and learning how to respond with compassion instead of self-judgment.

Growth begins when we slow down enough to listen to ourselves without criticism.
That’s where real change lives.

When unconscious material enters language, it does not arrive in a linear or orderly way. It appears compressed, inverted, symbolic, and spatially illogical, because the psyche organizes meaning by association rather than by grammar. What sounds confusing is often structurally precise—just operating according to a different logic than waking thought.

You don’t always need big breakthroughs.
Sometimes you just need a moment that smells like sunlight and peace.
A reminder that tenderness is still possible.
That softness is not weakness.
That rest is a form of courage.

Let today be a “dandelion moment.”
Breathe.
Feel.
Be here.

Healing isn’t clarity.
It’s movement.

Growth doesn’t happen in straight lines—it bends, softens, and reshapes what once felt stuck. Old emotions don’t disappear; they transform.

You’re not failing because things feel unclear.
You’re integrating.

Healing isn’t about eliminating chaos—it’s about learning to move with it until it becomes something you can hold, not something that holds you.

If you feel in between, uncertain, or fluid,
this isn’t a setback.
It’s your system rewriting itself.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Darren Main recently about healing from religious trauma, especially in the context of LGBTQ people. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

I appreciated his depth of understanding, nuanced questions and vulnerability expressed throughout our dialogue.

Hope you enjoy! 💙

Grateful that after 25 years of private practice as a psychotherapist — going through multiple recessions, a pandemic & challenges being self-employed — that I’m able to take off time in between clients for my local hiking place 🥾💚🌿

It's been a multi-week process but I've finally updated my Telehealth office space for 2024! 🖥️📷

Planning to use it not only for client psychotherapy sessions but also to create YouTube psychoeducational videos on topics relevant to relationships and mental health. 🎥

And I get to use my new Sony mirrorless full frame camera for my 2024 hikes! Weighs more than my iPhone but takes much better quality pictures/videos. 💚🌲🌿

Can I call myself an "avid hiker" now? 😉

Immensely grateful for the 50+ hikes I was able to do this 2023 year that kept my head above water as my heart broke for the intense pain/suffering in the world. 💔

Solo hiking 192+ hours, 470+ miles and 111,000+ feet elevation gain was some of the best therapy I've ever had! 💚🌲🌿

🌟 Embrace the "Red Pill of Humility" with Kindness and Compassion 🌟

In the realm of "The Matrix," the red and blue pills represent facing the truth or living in ignorance. But this choice goes beyond politics; it's a transformative decision in life. ✨🎯

The "red pill" is humility - the mirror that reflects our true selves. It's about acknowledging our flaws and limitations, all while treating ourselves with kindness and compassion. This choice isn't always easy, but the rewards are profound. 🪄💖

Humility extends to modesty in various life aspects - from giving up your seat to avoiding self-aggrandizement. It's the most honest approach to life, rooted in realism and self-acceptance, all while treating ourselves gently. 🌿🌼

Taking the "red pill" might pose challenges, but it's a path filled with beauty. Research shows that humble individuals experience benefits in almost every facet of life, from enriching relationships to fostering self-control and cultivating compassion. 🌞🤝

Here are three practical tips:
1️⃣ Embrace your weaknesses with kindness.
2️⃣ Seek an honest friend to share your journey and keep you humble.
3️⃣ Draw inspiration from awe-inspiring moments or virtuous individuals, and be sure to extend that kindness and compassion to yourself. 🌟💫

Ultimately, humility allows you to shed your mask, be your beautifully imperfect self, and experience a profound sense of freedom and compassion. 🌟💖
