Lipedema: A Silent Struggle for Many Women
Did you know that Lipedema is a chronic condition affecting nearly 11% of women worldwide? Despite its prevalence, many women go undiagnosed or misunderstood. 💔
🔹 What is Lipedema?
Lipedema is a painful and progressive disease where fat is abnormally stored in the legs, hips, and sometimes the arms. It can cause swelling, pain, and mobility issues, yet it’s often misdiagnosed as simple obesity or lymphedema.
🔹 Who’s at risk?
Lipedema primarily affects women and can start or worsen during times of hormonal change—like puberty, pregnancy, or menopause.
🔹 It’s more than appearance:
Lipedema is not just about body shape; it can deeply impact self-esteem, physical health, and quality of life. Early diagnosis and management can make a big difference!
🚨 We need to break the stigma and push for more research, better treatments, and greater awareness so women can get the help they deserve.
This patient has been part of my practice for many years and her transition to menopause sparked progressive symptoms leading to her diagnosis. I feel fortunate to have been able to help her through her diagnosis and guide her to lifestyle & surgical treatments that help maintain her quality of life.
