I’ve just added ketamine assisted psychotherapy to my practice. I have finished a comprehensive training from Polaris Insight Center out of San Francisco. I’m excited to offer this to clients who need help with depression, trauma, addiction, and anxiety. Please call Redwood Therapy Group for more information.

If you’re walled off, you’re protected but not connected. If you’re boundary-less, you’re connected but not protected. Health is connection with protection.

The phrase “get past your past” or anything that sounds like it is a nice thought but is incredibly frustrating for people who have PTSD. They would do anything to get”past” the pain, nightmares, and triggers they experience regularly. The phrase “time heals all wounds” is another really comforting idea but is often also a lie. It is said by people who don’t understand how the brain processes trauma, however well meaning they might be. There is help and healing so you can get healed from emotional wounds that hold you back. Seek a qeualifief EMDR therapist.

Just did the EMDR addiction training. It was comprehensive and will be an additional tool!

I used EMDR to help a police officer today who had years ago been in the middle of a gun battle. He walked out of my office without emotional pain from the trauma. I love being able to help police officers. I don’t think we realize the cost they have to pay.

So with this social distancing but a more urgent need for mental health care, at Redwood Therapy Group we are offering teletherapy. I have done it for years. It is a great option to help you right in your own home and so easy to use.

We talk a lot about needing to forgive ourselves for past mistakes. I think it is another way of saying that we feel shame. As therapists, we prefer to help people understand that when we feel shame we are telling ourselves we “are” bad for making a mistake or doing something bad. That term keeps us stuck and depressed. I prefer to ask people to feel guilt which says I “did” something bad. I can feel remorse for a short time, repair what I can, and use that feeling to for what it was intended which is to remind me to not do it again. Shame does not help anyone- the person who committed the wrong nor the receiver of the wrong.
