In life, we often try to plan exactly where we want to go and how things should turn out. Imagine making a paper airplane and carefully folding it, hoping it will fly exactly where you want it to land. Once the airplane is thrown into the air, it may dip, turn, or land somewhere completely different from what was expected. This reflects how life can be unpredictable, even when we put effort into doing our best. The lesson is that trusting the process and continuing to move forward is often more important than knowing exactly where we will land.

Play and sand therapy are powerful approaches because they allow clients to express emotions and experiences that may be difficult to put into words. Through symbolic play and sand tray scenes, clients externalize internal conflicts, trauma, and relational patterns in a safe and non-threatening way. This process supports emotional regulation, nervous system calming, insight, and integration of difficult experiences. Play and sand therapy help build self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of mastery within the therapeutic space. We are excited to provide this modality at ATD Treatment Center.

Puzzles are a simple way to understand problem-solving in life. Today in group, we worked on a puzzle.

As we put the pieces together, we saw how a big picture can be broken down into smaller parts. We tried different pieces, noticed what fit and what didn’t, and kept going even when it felt frustrating.

This is similar to how we solve problems in real life. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, we can focus on one small step at a time. Puzzles teach us to be patient, think carefully, and not give up when something doesn’t work right away. In this way, puzzles remind us that life’s difficulties can be solved piece by piece.
