Cancer patients at Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley look forward to a special visitor on Tuesday mornings: Teddy, a therapy dog.

The 6-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever and his owner, Deb Graber, have been regulars at the Cancer Center for several years. In order to become a certified therapy dog, Teddy had to pass the K9 Good Citizen Test, something he did with flying colors.

Deb has been involved with therapy dogs for 20 years. She was motivated to volunteer after seeing how patients in a nursing home where her younger brother was a resident reacted to one family who regularly brought their dog to visit. “I want to make people happy!” Deb says of her work with the therapy dogs. Patients and staff at the Cancer Center agree that seeing Teddy brightens their day. Teddy is so popular that he even has his own trading card!

We're thrilled to celebrate a true legend at Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley and Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley: Becky Harris, manager of Health Information Management (Medical Records)!

Becky was recently honored by her colleagues for an astonishing 45 years of dedicated service! Think about that – four and a half decades! When Becky started working at the hospital, physicians dictated notes onto dictaphones, and staff meticulously transcribed them on typewriters. Fast forward to today, and AI-powered transcription programs create those same notes almost instantaneously.

Becky has not only witnessed but also embraced incredible technological leaps and countless changes in hospital operations. Her resilience and adaptability are truly inspiring! But through it all, one thing has remained constant: her unwavering commitment to excellence and her profound compassion for her co-workers and the patients she serves.

Join us in sending a massive Happy Anniversary to Becky! Thank you, Becky, for 45 years of making a difference.

💧 Hydrate like a pro: Aim for 6–8 glasses of water a day to keep energy up and headaches down.
🏃 Move a little, every day: Even a 10-minute walk boosts your heart, mood, and mind.
🛌 Prioritize sleep: 7–8 hours helps your body recharge and your immune system stay strong.
🍎 Eat the rainbow: More color on your plate = more nutrients for your body.
✋ Wash your hands: Especially after using the bathroom or before eating to stop the spread of germs.
😷 Cover your coughs and sneezes: Keep friends, family, and coworkers healthy too!
👁️ Follow the 20-20-20 rule: When looking at screens for extended periods of time, every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds to rest your eyes.

As fall sports ramp up, it's important that if you have a student-athlete or support one, to understand the importance of injury prevention. Here are some tips you can share:

Rest
Make sure you're adding rest days to the schedule. Letting the body heal is important to having the energy to perform in future practices and games.

Wear the Right Gear
Gear doesn't only affect how your athlete plays, it also helps protect them and others from injury. Gear that is the wrong size or in poor condition can actually contribute to injuries.

Stay Hydrated Whether a sports drink or plain water, drinking enough fluids is important before, during and after games to avoid dehydration.

Warm Up
Warming up and stretching the body before practice or a game will help prevent injuries.

Listen to Your Body
If you are in pain or feel ill, stop, rest and address the issue before continuing. Learn more about ways to prevent sports injuries this sports season.
