I'm out of town for a week to a magical and unknown location. I'm taking a risk in pursuit of deep magic. I'm revisiting a place of ancestral history that holds both power and shadow for my lineage. I am curious to greet that land and its spirits. I am excited to meet elders and teachers, both human and otherwise, and dive beneath the surface into luminal space. I am happy, honored, thrilled, curious and just on the edge of scared. But so so alive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

recommended to me "The Immortality Key" by Brian Muraresku and I am transfixed. True confession: I really really tried to read "The Road to Eleusis" but I never made it halfway. I got lost in the pages and pages of footnotes and gave up. Muraresku revisits much of the scholarship related to that book and takes it further into the modern scholarship of archeochemistry in a fascinating and well paced manner. Along the way, he travels to various locations in Europe and the Near East in search of the origins of psychoactive sacrament and eucharist. Through these sacraments, he finds concrete evidence that humans (since the Stone Age) have used naturally occurring psychoactive components as the foundational key to understanding ourselves as spiritual beings and immortal souls.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Shopping for the holidays? I have "Rune Rebellion" books available for purchase through for your favorite rune curious loved one. Handmade rune sets are also available and I have a few rare sets made of TX armadillo bones (see the comment for more info about where the bones came from). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As an animist witch, I believe that rune magic is deeply rooted in this land and its spirits. Runes exist here in a uniquely Texas way that is unlike runes in Scandinavia 800 years ago or Sweden of 2021. Armadillo runes honor this syncretic expression of magic. Ancient. Alive. Intentional. Present.

Lick it. Do you dare?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The water from the underside of polypores is considered nutrient rich and when licked, can provide energy when you are feeling physical fatigue during forest hikes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What does it taste like? Umami and refreshing with a texture of fine velvet.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

That red brown color of the earth. What is it called? Ochre? No. Too red. Clay? No. Too brown. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes words fail me but my eyes do not deceive me and my heart feels this deeply.

Sunrise over Palo Duro and racing the sunrise.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The house where I stayed in Palo Duro hung over the precipice of the canyon and every morning, I was greeted by a spectacular sunrise. And wow was that sunrise FAST! It was only a matter of minutes from a few rays of light peeking above the horizon to the full sun.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The romantic in me thinks that a sunrise lasts longer. Longer to savor a coffee. Longer to journal a page. Longer to look away and then back again. But that is wrong. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are traveling at 1000 miles per hour or 17 miles/minute. We are moving quickly through this solar cycle. The sun pops up and disappears just as quickly. And I remember to stay present in the very immediate now. Look and watch. Don't be distracted. This one and beautiful sunrise is happening NOW. Put down your coffee and journal. Focus your attention fully. Be here now fully cognizant that you travel at 1000 miles/hour without ever moving a muscle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
