Meadowfoam is a wonderful source of forage for the bees in the spring. Its pollen has a high lipid content, and rates well nutritionally. It looks stunning in springtime. I am not a great photographer, and my iphone is old, but you can tell it is a vibrantly colorful plant. It is sometimes called Poached Egg Plant..

After the Brushy Mountain Bee Farm meltdown, the Ruhl Bee team has regrouped and is operating as Hive&Garden. We have been in business since January, and our online site is hiveandgarden.com. We carry a full line of core supplies. We build much of the woodenware ourselves in our West Linn Woodshop, and we carry as many local products as we get our hands on. We are still selling nucleus colonies, and we have a good supply of queens.

Did you get new bees this Spring? Here is some important info for you:

As the daytime temperatures continue to be cool (mid 40s F), your newly installed packages tend to form a winter cluster to retain heat. This cluster can starve in place unless they have very close access to food. To reduce the risk of starvation, sprinkling Drivert sugar directly on the bees. Internal feeders such as hive top feeders are also good, as they are directly above the cluster and so at the warmest place in the hive. Hive entrance feeders do not work as well in cool weather.

Package Bee update: There has been a date change for one of the package bee dates. If you ordered for the first group that was originally going to be available April 3rd, that date has now been moved to Thursday April 5th (Pick up between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm). If your order was for the Second group (April 7th), this date has NOT changed and Pick up is between 9:00 am and 3:00pm. Thank you for your understanding. Emails and letters are going out ASAP.
